Full moon and kids behaviour

thisisasurvivor · 01/06/2023 21:43

Call me mad
But

Two days before every single fulll moon my child's behaviour is out of control
Tantrums
Not wanting to get dressed

Lying on floor

Anyone else ever notice this
Two days before the full moon?

Been tracking it now for around 14 months 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Can confirm this is also a thing for ambulance and police services! I used to dread my full moon shifts

ToK1 · 01/06/2023 23:28

@Mala1992

Also more violent crime, more alcohol related accidents.

Labour wards are busier. Ovulation is more naturally aligned to full moon. Faster growth of hair (werewolves!).

None of this is true though

ToK1 · 01/06/2023 23:30

@Alsobeyondshit

Of course it is.

Otherwise we'd all have a shit time every full moon.

Which is obviously nonsense

Yeah, it's nonsense. Lots of studies have shown no link between behaviour and moon phase.

Doesn't have to be shit does it? Just a bit different?

ToK1 · 01/06/2023 23:33

@Alsobeyondshit

So every full moon you experience something a ' bit different '

And think everyone else does too?

justasking111 · 01/06/2023 23:34

Police friends say it is a thing. My mom worked in a psychiatric hospital said it was a thing. Wind I've not noticed but barometric pressure is apparently a thing

weareallout · 01/06/2023 23:42

I work with kids and coach kids.
It's a thing. All teachers I know say it too. 'Kids have gone loopy'
'Oh god it's full moon'

Candymay · 01/06/2023 23:49

At first I was amazed at all the people here agreeing with this theory. But then I thought of how many people believe that star signs are significant. I suppose it’s the same sort of thing. Total nonsense

weareallout · 01/06/2023 23:55

@Candymay do you work with kids in any capacity? Or the police?

Hatehooveringsomuch · 02/06/2023 00:00

Wow, how interesting..so is this before a full moon or on the day/night of a full moon?
How do you know it’s about to be a full moon?
Why would it affect people with autism, out of interest?

Mala1992 · 02/06/2023 00:14

@Hatehooveringsomuch There are lots of ways to know if a full moon is coming up.

Seems to be more generally remarked upon these days too - maybe more media reporting of eclipses, blue moons, super moons etc

rebelrebbel · 02/06/2023 00:26

Teacher here and I have had years of full moon fuckery in my classes too!

Plus the wind. Christ, the wind.

Interestingly, the thing I notice more is my dreams. Always very odd, vivid and I always remember them - 2-3 days around the full moon . Happens to my DD too!

OneSecond · 02/06/2023 00:38

Have found this interesting article (beautifully written too): aeon.co/essays/do-the-phases-of-the-moon-affect-human-behaviour

MicrowaveRice · 01/06/2023 22:01

Ask any teacher or TA!😂 if it's windy at the same time ... OMG.

Yes, if it is windy, absolute animals!

Candymay · 02/06/2023 01:45

weareallout · 01/06/2023 23:55

@Candymay do you work with kids in any capacity? Or the police?

Yes I do. 38 years working with children

its almost too worrying to think of grown police believing this. I know the police might not be intellectual but to think they might put a rise in crime down to the cycles of the moon is just embarrassing.

Growlybear83 · 02/06/2023 02:47

LollipopViolet · 01/06/2023 21:52

This is definitely "a thing". My mum works in a care home, many residents have dementia and she says in the couple of days before a full moon, her residents' behaviour changes.

Yes I was told exactly the same when my mum was in a care home last year by two different team leaders. They dreaded each full moon apparently because some of the residents with severe dementia became extremely agitated and difficult to manage in the couple of days beforehand.

Franticbutterfly · 02/06/2023 09:06

I used to live in a city centre and there was loads more trouble on a full moon.

SixKeys · 02/06/2023 09:21

I thought the higher incidence of crime was thought to be linked to how bright it is at night when there's a full moon.

The gravitational pull of the moon is just as strong when there's a new moon but I've never heard of reports of behaviour changes linked to a new moon.

Yes, the tides are affected when there's a full moon however even in our largest bodies of water outside of the ocean this change is almost immeasurable, so unlikely that us as human beings are genuinely affected.

I suspect there's a bit of confirmation bias involved, or lots of people just don't have blackout blinds so they/their kids don't sleep as well.

MintyCedric · 02/06/2023 09:29

Used to work in an all girls secondary school…absolutely knew when there was a full moon every time!

kshaw · 02/06/2023 09:49

whenever i get grief off of my ex husband, it ALWAYS falls at the full moon. Absolutely nuts. My gran used to always say it sends people crackers!

FayKnights · 02/06/2023 10:30

Definitely a thing! I see a change in my kids and dogs. It’s where the word ‘lunatic’ comes from apparently!

tailinthejam · 02/06/2023 10:51

ToK1 · 01/06/2023 23:18

Also, puddles are 100% water and the moon doesn't affect them either

It does - it's just that the body of water is so small by comparison with say, the Atlantic, we can't see it.

Bbq1 · 02/06/2023 10:59

I work in a school. I only heard this theory for the first time from a friend in work last year. She swore that the children's behaviour changed around the time of the full moon. Initially, I was doubtful but turns out that she was 100% correct.
