What's a decent box of chocolates?

What's a nice but not OTT box of chocolates these days?

A colleague very kindly lent me a very expensive DIY tool for a couple of days, and I want to get them a little something to say thanks. They don't drink, but have a sweet tooth.

I like guylian chocolates, find them quite rich and moreish.

Sunnysidegold · 03/06/2023 07:02

@NigellaAwesome I was imagining a box of chocolates where the sweets were shaped like London buses, or the London eye, big ben....

mondaytosunday · 03/06/2023 07:48

Ugh someone gave me those M&S chocolates and I thought they were yuck. And M&S doesn't feel special enough, irreagardless of price.

Another vote for Monty bojangles. I’m going to check out some of the other suggestions though!
lily o’briens caramel disc shaped things are amazing. Not tried their other stuff.

Watchthedoormat · 03/06/2023 07:53

Guylian seashells would be my choice.

JollyJunee · 03/06/2023 07:56

Oooo, I love Leonides too, my favourite. There is a shop near me. But I have to say this box of nutty chocolate from Lindt comes a very close second. Absolutely yum!
Lindt

Lindt. Hotel Chocolat is massively overrated I tried some a while back after hearing all the hype and they just weren't that nice. Okay, but nothing special. I wouldn't buy them again.

gogohmm · 03/06/2023 08:19

I like Lily o'brians! But better are Waitrose 1 truffles, M&S do nice ones and sometimes Lidl have excellent truffles though mostly for Christmas. (Cheat way of "making" homemade truffles was buying lidl ones and decanting into nicer packaging! Though I do make my own too)

Long ago & not so far away, Prestat used to have a little shop on South Milton Street. Always a treat to pop in & get a small box made up of different flavoured chocolate truffles. The gift boxes are an added compliment.

Montezumas & Paul A Young also delicious.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 03/06/2023 08:45

Monty Bojangles are nice as are Prestat, Charbonnel et Walker or Leonidas. You can get first 3 in eg Waitrose/John Lewis.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 03/06/2023 08:45

Rococo are nice and used to have a shop on Marylebone High Street.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/06/2023 08:59

I don't like M&S chocolates, Thornton's or even the Waitrose ones people always recommend.

Leonidas are good, or even a box of the tiny Green & Black bars. Someone gave me those recently and I was delighted.

SallyWD · 03/06/2023 09:02

I really like all the Lindt chocolates. Consistently good.

Enko · 03/06/2023 09:06

I suspect you will find them over priced but I would buy Neuhaus chocolates.

I'd avoid hotel chocolat

ApplesinmyPocket · 03/06/2023 09:21

At Christmas we had a topic about people's chocolate recommendations, and someone mentioned Guilberts Chocolates which are handmade in Bristol. I thought they were lovely, the best chocolates I'd had in ages. They aren't cheap but not crazily pricey and even Hotel Chocolat is quite dear these days!

Depends on the reason for not drinking/how strict they are on that. Lots of brands sneak in alcohol somewhere but Hotel Chocolat is great for offering alcohol free chocolates.

DisforDarkChocolate · 03/06/2023 09:24

Paul A Young, truly wonderful chocolates.

DisforDarkChocolate · 03/06/2023 09:25

Harry Spector's, fab and a good cause.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 03/06/2023 10:50

I just love milk tray, not very posh but so yummy

whitesnowflake · 03/06/2023 12:48

Cocoa Black, absolutely delicious chocolates.

HappiDaze · 03/06/2023 21:09

I like Lindt and the Monty Bojangles are delicious

I do not like Hotel Chocolat at all and Lily O'Briens tastes like plasticine. Thorntons isn't much better.

I'd be happy with an M&S or Waitrose selection

I'm also partial to Ferrero Rocher and dark Elizabeth Shaw and mint matchsticks
