When’s the best time of day to call HMRC, to get through without waiting hours?

Does anyone know the best time of day to call them with a chance of getting through before the on-hold music drives one mad!

I don’t think there is one tbh. Just put it on speaker and let it ring (quietly?) it’s an absolute pain to get them and then they wonder why everyone’s mad by the time they pick up the phone.

DS got through OK ringing first thing

I found writing to them was the quickest way to get a response and a sensible answer. They owed me £10000 and every phone call took ages to get through, then got through to someone who was clueless and just tried to fob me off. Writing - and sending the letter recorded delivery - was much more effective for me

Maybe when the weather turns wet and cold and the remote workers go back inside? 😂

I regularly ring them from work and they will often say they are up to 6 weeks behind on opening post (not reading or actioning, just opening).

It’s bit luck of the draw when’s best, early morning can be good to beat the rush, mid week can also be better.

Got through, passed to another service and back again, helped with all I needed to know.
