My hairdresser is gone

I found a new hairdresser last year and I fell in love with him and his work. He's very good and I love what he does with my hair.

I went online to book a new trim and I discovered the salon I went to is under new management and he's also gone from the place.

I did a search online for him and I found his Facebook page. It looks like he's renting a chair in a salon. It looks like you book through his Facebook and not in the salon he's working at. I don't know how it works to be honest.

Does it look bad that I facebook stalked his name and found him? I would love to go back to him.

Does anyone work in hair styling. It looks like the majority of his advertising and work is with colour. However when I play around with a booking but not going through with it fully and to the end, it does give the option for a wash and cut.

I wonder do I need to phone the salon he's renting a chair at to book him or do I contact him through his Facebook page.

Please help. My hair does need a trim now and the idea of going to someone else breaks my heart.

If he is promoting his business through FB then I imagine it is fine to contact him this way.

They usually aren't allowed to take their clients with them or let them know they're leaving so I'm sure he'll be delighted if you get in touch.

I'd message him through FB

That could be the only way he could legally let his regulars know his new gig. He probably signed a clause stating that he wouldn’t poach regular clients from the previous salon. Sounds like he was very smart with the FB thing.

I had this happen to me when my favourite hairdresser left as they're not allowed to take clients with them
Luckily I found her on FB and she was so happy I'd found her
She set up a salon in her converted garage and only charges me £45 for cut and colour Win win for me!
Message him if you're having problems booking

twoandcooplease · 01/06/2023 15:44

Hairdressers appreciate clients who follow them to other salons
Just pop him a private message I wouldn't think it'd be a problem. It's not stalking him and I don't think he'd think that either

I had a hairdresser I followed to four different salons. He would give me the nod usually before he moved. Then he gave up hairdressing, I've never found another one I like as much 😭

autumnboys · 01/06/2023 16:03

I followed my hairdresser around several salons before she moved away. That’ll be why he’s promoting his services on FB, so go for it!

Yes, normally Stylists cannot tell their clients they are leaving a salon they are employed in. It is quite normal for people to contact them through social media. Some salons where you rent a chair actually do not take bookings for Stylists who rent a chair and they handle their own bookings via Social Media.

A lot now book through Fresha also
So if you see that mentioned ... book away

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/06/2023 16:48

He might be on Instagram too. I feel your pain. My hairdresser left and it took me years to find one I like as much as him.

ineedspace · 01/06/2023 16:52

I work in the industry. Yes, just message them. Or contact the salon you’ve discovered he works at and just ask if name works there and how would you go about booking with them.
we’re always pleased when clients follow us.

Discwriter · 01/06/2023 17:09

I've fb stalked my hairdresser. She is now moving salons again and was allowed to tell me where she's going as I'm 'hers'. Definitely message him, I'm sure he'd be deljghted!

FlyingEye · 01/06/2023 17:54

I’m a hairdresser, I had to leave a salon and set up my own. Was always happy for people to track me down and contact me through any means possible! Just message.

Thank you for all of the replies. I went to book an appointment with him but he's booked out for the majority of June already. She only has a few free spaces available for June and none of them suit me. I will be away in July so I won't be able to book in July. It seems as if he's mainly only working weekdays too and he's not available on Saturdays. A Saturday appointment suits me the best. It's hard to organise a suitable time.

I think I may need to seek a new hairdresser. I am heartbroken.
