DD is 5 and we just came back from our first holiday abroad with her (a week in Greece), last year we did 4 days at a Haven camp, camped when she was a baby and that’s it so far!

I try to aim for about 5-6 countries a year but next year we are going to try and hit a different country each month, I traveled a lot before I had my toddler and intend to do just as much with him by my side! In 2024 we're starting off the year traveling around India and Sri Lanka for a monthSmile

wow I thought people were meant to be struggling to eat these days and in a cost of living crisis can't believe how people are affording all these holidays.

There will obviously be people for whom a holiday of any kind is out of reach, but that doesn't mean no one should have a holiday.
My friend and her children would likely not have had a holiday this year, but by sharing a (cheap) caravan holiday with me and my DC, they were able to halve the cost. Being poor doesn't negate deserving happiness.

We do one abroad, one in the UK, and probably a couple of weekends a year. We're thinking of taking them to a festival soon as they're getting a bit bigger too.

We have one of two UK self catering breaks each year and a foreign trip each year if possible though didn’t leave the country between 2019 and 2022

We are in the US, so travel overseas (mainly UK) every couple of years (big 3 week European trip this summer!) Domestically we have a week away twice a year (spring and autumn) plus maybe 3 long weekends/city breaks. This year is a significant birthday/Anniversary do we are also headin to Montana for a week around Christmas. We do own a cabin on a lake a few hours drive away so most summer weekends we head up there.

Travel is my major priority/indulgence to be honest. I also grew up without a pot to piss in and rarely traveled as a child. I'm making up for it now! We aren't terribly concerned about "stuff", I'd rather show the kids the world.

Varies per year but so far one beach holiday for a week on canary islands, then one European trip for a week to visit family, will do one overseas trip in summer plus maybe one October half term. Also have done a short UK break plus will do another one over August bank holiday.

It's just me and DD and I get 6 weeks holiday

We try to do a holiday abroad & a week in the UK each year. Sometimes we have the odd night away to visit family.

One abroad, one visiting ILs (not exactly a holiday for me!), one UK activity break, one UK city break. Sometimes another UK break. I love holidays but I do find the organising a bit stressful, I wouldn't enjoy going away more often than that.

Mumof118 · 02/06/2023 01:47

We always went on one or two holidays a year abroad, and our summer holiday was always for around 4-5 weeks long.

However, our DS has turned 18 and no longer wants to come away with us. I completely understand of course, I remember being that age myself, and I respect his decision… but secretly I am struggling a little bit with him pulling away. He’s my first and only, so I guess that’s normal.
