This is why we can't have anything nice 🙄

Indulge me while I wait for a 90 degree wash to finish..

With a bonus from work I treated myself to some Egyptian cotton bedding from John Lewis (i.e. stupidly expensive). Bit disappointed as they feel "crunchy" and the embroidered border only goes round three sides and not across the top (it's shown folded over online so you can't tell 😠 and yes I did complain, to no avail).

First night some black ink stains appeared - no idea how, they weren't there when we went to bed but were there in the morning. Soaked the duvet cover in washing up liquid then a hot wash. Faded but not gone.

Sulked for a few weeks but put them on again at the weekend. Went upstairs tonight and on my bastard cats has killed and left a mouse on the bed. Blood everywhere. Rubbed with a Vanish paste and put them on a 90 degree wash again.

Just been reading that I should have soaked in class water overnight and put on a cold wash.

Also I obviously put too much detergent in as the machine leaked foam earlier (hence I'm waiting for the programme to finish safely).

So. Will my duvet cover come out whiter than white or... not?

In the meantime, said bastard cat has brought in another mouse. Sigh.

Another trick is to put a dishwasher tablet in with your usual detergent.

Hope the sunlight also does its trick.

@CharlotteStreetW1 tk max or home sense
Very high thread counts and much cheaper than jl

Moredarkchocolateplease · 01/06/2023 09:33

We only use white bedding.

The border around the top would drive me crazy, all proper white duvet covers have a plain seam at the top.

We just wash ours on 50deg on its own. There's always the odd mark from general life. We've used white sheets for 20yrs.

It's part of life, nothing stays immaculate.

You'll be fine op. Honestly it's one of those things where the annoyance fades quite quickly 😊

Am I the only person who closes doors and doesn't allow pets into bedrooms?
Ace bleach also gets stains out BTW.

Nothingisblackandwhite · 01/06/2023 10:09

Hydrogen peroxide will take it off

Def need some training doing op.
Any decent dcat slave would have been grateful for such a gift...
Your poor dcat... Don't be surprised if they move out to somewhere they are more appreciated...

I was amazing what good results I got recently with lemon juice and sunshine after various proprietary stain removers had failed.

Funkyblues101 · 01/06/2023 10:31

You need to watch more crime drama, then you'd know to use cold water on blood!
Dye the sheets dark blue. Several dylon packs will do the job.

Catspyjamas17 · 01/06/2023 10:49

I hear you. Finally got round to having our landing and hall stairs carpet professionally cleaned and it looked amazing. For all of five minutes. The dog got upstairs, stole the cats' food and did the biggest wee I've ever seen on the landing. It really felt like the universe was taking the piss out of me (or inflicting the piss on me).

Probably not, sorry :( Vanish power gel is particularly good at shifting blood stains but I also pre-soak in cold water and put on a cold wash.

But you never know, 🤞🤞

Let me know if you find out what those tiny black ink dots are - they appear on my white duvet too!

Spider poo (I'm not joking!).

not the point of the thread but I wouldn’t want an embroidery border at the top.. surely it would rub against your face when you’re all snuggled up in it.

I see your point but it was this sort of border which just looks like it's missing a bit to me.

He practically has!

In fact this may have been a peace offering 😂

The stains should come out eventually with Vanish but may take a few applications to be successful.
Just a tip from one cat owner to another - keep the bedroom door shut 😉

Guess it's time to get the bleach out...

(No sign of blood after line drying in the sun so that's something)
