Headed down for a weekend away soon, would love some recommendations for a great Sunday Roast and any fun things to do for a childfree couple! Staying near Aldeburgh and have NT membership and do know the area a bit. Have a car of course too :)

Get yourself to The Two Magpires bakery for a little afternoon treat 😍🙌🏻 absolutely beautiful cakes!

Fivemoreminutes1 · 31/05/2023 13:53

The Unruly Pig for Sunday lunch, but you need to book! Orford is nice and there’s a boat across to the little island https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/suffolk/orford-ness-national-nature-reserve Fantastic seafood and bakery too - a must-do if you’re foodies.
Sutton Hoo is NT too and there’s a fun escape room https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/suffolk/sutton-hoo/events/1b5a3b91-0ef6-4084-814e-93e29290e669

I’d also recommend the Adnams Brewery tour in southwold

The Unruly Pig is a few miles from Aldeburgh and supposedly amazing. It's very close to Sutton Hoo which is fascinating and is NT.

Snape Maltings is lovely, you can walk there from Aldeburgh along a route called The Sailors Path, or you can drive.

The Kitchen in Thorpeness does a good Sunday Lunch, and is walking distance from Aldeburgh.

One of my favourite pubs in that area is The Crown at Westleton. I've had some lovely food there, never had a roast though.

Benjamin Brittens house in Aldeburgh, The Red House, is worth a visit. I can't remember if it's NT or not though.

Hope you have a lovely time.

I forgot to mention that the boating lake at Thorpeness is good fun - there are a few little islands where you can moor up and get out to explore. The House in the Clouds is also at Thorpeness.

The Wentworth hotel in Aldeburgh is nice for a real old fashioned quality hotel vibe

Heard good things about the Unruly Pig. Wondering if a roast in Woodbridge is in order as thinking Sutton Hoo on way back home for a big walk

Cherry Tree in Woodbridge is lovely.

Ally256 · 31/05/2023 16:20

The Suffolk in Aldeburgh is new and amazing

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/05/2023 16:22

Woodbridge is lovely. There's a pub in Melton, just before you get to Woodbridge, that has just won Suffolk pub of the year award: https://www.debeninns.co.uk/coachandhorses/

There's also good food at The Bull in Woodbridge Market place. The Cherry Tree is a nice proper pub, but I wouldn't say the food is outstanding.

If you're interested in Sutton Hoo then try to get to The Longshed in Woodbridge where they are making a full size replica of the ship. I think it's open 11 - 3 every day, but best to check the website. Its fascinating.

Any good walks near Aldeburgh or southwold also? Was thinking Dunwich Heafh?

Dunwich Heath is lovely. You can park near Sizewell, walk to Dunwich along the coast, then walk across the Heath to the Eels Foot Inn which serves Adnans, then back to Sizewell.

There's also RSPB Minsmere which is interesting even if you're not that bothered by birds!
