University libraries - can anyone access them?

I'm trying to find the full text version of a research paper I can't seem to get online. Someone suggested going to a university library for a uni with a medical faculty because it's a medical paper. But can I just walk in without being a student? How does it work?

Look up Sci hub you can paste in the URL of the paper if its published in a major journal and it will unlock it for you

I found that thanks crazy - it's what seems to be the wrong paper that's referenced in the book I bought. Really interesting and with some leads I could possibly look into but not the study on the children.

Many do but you can't just turn up, you need to be registered as an external user. However, now might not be the best time, as it's exam season. Ours have temporarily stopped allowing public use until exams finish in a couple of weeks.

I can access e books by the author of the paper but not that specific paper.

It is a very interesting topic. One of my friends is an endocrinologist and is very interested in the science behind obesity and we have discussed it many times.

Is it a journal article or a book? You can order books from your local library using inter library loan system (normally a small charge). If a journal article, you may be able to order it through inter library loan, but will depend.
When I came home from uni, I used my local uni library with no bother....but that was getting on for 30years ago!

(Sorry for barging into your thread, OP. Good luck for getting the paper you're after.)

Have you contacted any medical libraries directly? Many library staff would be happy to help, even if you’re not affiliated with the institution, on the grounds that it’s an interesting query for them to handle.

These links also have online resources on top of contact details:

The Library offers a range of services, for members and fellows, affiliates and exam candidates, members of other colleges, and researchers and the public.
