I'm trying to juggle working full time with having a one year old and I currently cook a lot of things that take ages - it's just not working. Saw a 10 minute recipe on TikTok and tried it last night and thought This could be the answer to all my problems!

What are your genuinely 10 minute recipes?

I can't eat gluten and husband is vegetarian but we can usually adapt recipes so still tell me meaty/Wheaty things.

Poached eggs on fried potato cakes? Obviously the mashed potato would need to be done before hand so not included in the 10 mins.
Pasta in a quick sauce.
Lemon cous cous with pan fried fish or vegetarian alternative.

This is a staple in our house. It's delicious. It only takes about 10-minutes to throw together and you can make tonnes, it'll last a good few days.

We have it with basically anything.

This makes a great lunchbox filler for a day out and is equally good at home from the fridge

Other thing which is time saving is cook once and then reheat the same thing for the next day.

Some of it is about doing stuff in advance. So if I'm making mash I'll do extra for potato cakes. Tonight I'm doing fried rice (and something else that's quick) but I cooked the rice when I had the oven on yesterday.

Fajitas chuck chicken pieces, peppers and opinions in pan.

Everyone puts their own only tortillas with the salsa

HRTeatime · 31/05/2023 11:47

boil spaghetti with frozen peas while frying some prawns with garlic. Drain pasta and peas, stir through some pesto, throw on the prawns and add grated Parmesan.

murasaki · 31/05/2023 12:00

Filled pasta, either spinach and ricotta or chicken and chorizo. While boiling, fry bacon bits and asparagus ( we keep a bag of frozen so just defrost a few spears at a time) in a ton of butter, lemon juice, garlic and Black pepper, add drained pasta to the pan for a.couple of mins and stir through. Dish up.

murasaki · 31/05/2023 12:01

Have chucked spinach in instead on occasions, that works fine too. It's all about the buttery sauce!

RollingOnTheRiver · 31/05/2023 12:04

Chicken and noodles (rice noodles are GF)
Takes mins to cook the small pieces of chicken, boiling the noodles at the same time, once chicken is cooked tip noodles & a handful of mange tout/other veg in & add a sauce to heat for 2 mins.

Failing that we always have meals batch cooked & in the freezer for a quick dinner.

Baked salmon with Cajun spices sprinkled on top. Bean salad: Canelli beans (tinned), green beans (frozen) salad, add chopped red onion, dash of olive oil, some lemon juice and chilli powder or paprika.

Tofu noodle teriyaki stir fry with mushrooms peppers and broccoli

Omelettes w spinach peppers and mushrooms

Veggie sausages with ready made root mash and veg

Bulgar wheat/ any grains with chickpeas spinach tomatoes and halloumi on top.

There are some of my go to meals when I don't have much time or simply can't be arsed 😂

gogohmm · 31/05/2023 12:10

Stir fry tofu and veg with a pouch of rice

Pad Thai (rice noodles)

Both I can get on the table in 10 minutes or less.

Various pasta dishes, not sure on cooking time for gf pasta, for wholewheat dried pasta it's 13-14 minutes to table as need to boil water, for fresh pasta I can get it done in under 10 (sauce suggestion: chopped shallots, garlic, parsley, capers, chilli and chopped tomatoes).

gogohmm · 31/05/2023 12:11

Fajitas/tacos are another quick favourite here if you can source gluten free wraps.

murasaki · 31/05/2023 12:17

We batch cook soup and freeze it, so that and ham and cheese toasties can be done very quickly.

itsnotmybirthday · 31/05/2023 12:22

Baked potatoes are quick to prep and fillings are quick to put together. If it's too hot to eat baked potatoes, you can serve the fillings with some crusty bread (for you) or boiled/steamed potatoes for your DH.

I sometimes make flavour bombs and freeze them in small quantities. They could be anything such as pesto, spicy sauce, compound butter etc. Then you can just mix them with rice or add to pasta or mash, or put on top of a potato or some grilled fish. Or eggs. Gives a nice bit of flavour and variety so your food doesn't taste the same. You could even add them to toasties.

Snoopystick · 31/05/2023 12:45

Batch cook spaghetti bolognaise and either eat half as is and add beans and chilli powder for quick chilli con carne with the rest. McCains frozen baked potatoes are quick to do - lovely with prawns and either garlic sauce or Marie Rose (ketchup mixed with mayo) and salad.

mrsbyers · 31/05/2023 12:46

Pasta , red pesto and cheese
