Misunderstanding with neighbour and now he must think I'm weird?!

I booked an uber and it was outside my house.

Turns out my neighbour 3 houses down, who I've never really spoken to, started ubering.

DH did the majority of the chatting, and about 3/4 of the way the guy says 'were neighbours and friends now, I'll stop the trip' or something similar, his first language is not English.

So I thought he had cancelled the trip so we didn't have to pay, as he was talking about us being neighbours and now friends as we had met properly.

I didn't get a notification of payment like I usually do from my bank so this further made me think he had given us a free ride.

He had small kids and I didn't wnat him to do that. So once we arrived at our destination I left him 5 stars and 'tipped him the full amount of the trip'

Only 5 mins later I got 2 notifications, one for the tip and one for the full amount of the trip as normal.

So I don't know what he did or meant when he pressed something on his screen talking about us being friends but he must think I'm a weirdo now because I gave him a 100% tip 😂😭😭

And I'm not flush either

I'd just pretend I didn't know what I was doing on the app

I think you might need to write this off as just a bit of a funny mix up! For future you know to pay him like usual. But he will probably be extra nice and helpful after the big tip.

BakedTattie · 31/05/2023 05:11

😂 this is totally the kind of thing I’d do. You might need to just write it off if you can and laugh about it.

when I met my neighbour for the first time, she introduced herself and then asked me, “it’s Karen isn’t it?” And for some reason unknown to bloody anyone, I replied yes. Reader, My name isn’t Karen. She must have eventually found out my real name and now 5 years later we have just never mentioned it again 😂 I’m actually dreading that one day she’ll ask me why I pretended my name was karen.

Might he have given you 'mates rates' for the journey rather than the normal cost?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 31/05/2023 06:27

And now you can never order an Uber again. Grin

Nope. With uber you see the fare before you accept the ride.

The fare charged was the fare offered originally.
