What are these weird mouth symptoms my whole family are experiencing??

For the last week, DH and our two pre-schoolers have had terrible sores in their mouths. Not quite like usual mouth ulcers - their tongues are bumpy and the roof of their mouths is red and spotty. DH says he has a smokey taste in his mouth too. This morning my tongue is tingling and I've got a bitter taste in my mouth, so it looks like I'm next! No other symptoms whatsoever, so I don't feel like it's something to bother the GP about. The DC have both improved quite a bit over the weekend, or I was going to call today. What on earth could it be??

Hand,foot and mouth?

HFM was my immediate thought as well. Sometimes the spots aren’t noticeable apart from those in the mouth. Younger children are very prone to catching it and passing it on.

We've had HFM before and the DC were quite poorly, very feverish etc. So I hadn't thought of that, as they've been otherwise fine! I think the first infection is supposed to be the worst too isn't it, which would make sense.

Covid? The only time I have had sore blisters and spots on the roof of my mouth at the back was when I had Covid. And my tongue and nose tingled very uncomfortably just before my senses of smell and taste went dolally.

I'm prone to mouth ulcers, and this was completely different.

This sounds like hand, foot and mouth, fever, mouth sores, rash on feet/hands. Check on a Covid test as well.

Strep?

Eruptive lingual papillitis?

Have a look at Measles on the nhs website. Happened to see something on the tv about it this week and the mouth sores were a main symptom.
Measles is on the rise again. You could still have it but your vaccines have reduced the symptoms (assuming you’ve all had your mmr).
