I've had BV before (but not for a long time). The smell is really 🤮 Apologies if TMI. I've ordered some gel which will arrive tomorrow, but I've got a really nasty ache from somewhere inside just above my pubic bone, which I've had for the last three days. I put it down to other stuff but I'm wondering if there's something else going on as I don't feel great. No temp, but have been feeling more chilly than usual.
I know I'm not going to keel over, but wonder if I need to speak to a GP tomorrow?

Any chance you have lost a tampon?

You need to get medical attention, if you develop a fever go to A & E

vipersnest1 · 29/05/2023 19:10

@ExpectingToBeBashed, I've had a hysterectomy so definitely not that!
Do I need to speak to someone tonight do you think? I'm not usually this hopeless looking after myself, but I haven't had this pain / ache since I had the hysterectomy, so I am a bit concerned.

So you've got a nasty smelling discharge, pain and you feel crap? You need urgent medical review, take a small pillow, blanket, water and snacks and book/phone/charger or power pack. It can be a long wait.

But stick with it. You could have a really nasty infection. The smell and pain is hard to explain otherwise.

vipersnest1 · 29/05/2023 19:56

I've given 111 a call as I really don't fancy A&E unless it's absolutely necessary (no walk-in round here).
I've been told that given my symptoms, they'll call back within two hours.

Could it be a STI

vipersnest1 · 29/05/2023 20:19

@icelolly12, if only that were on the cards.... But, no.

Sounds like it could be pelvic inflammatory disease.

vipersnest1 · 29/05/2023 20:44

A Dr from 111 has just called back. She agreed it was BV and has prescribed metronidazole, but I won't be able to collect until tomorrow. She thinks the pain is swollen glands in my pelvis as I've had BV before. Paracetamol hasn't touched the pain, but I do have something stronger (and totally forgot about it - fibro brain), so I'm going to take that now, along with a last few glasses of wine as I won't be drinking for the rest of my week off. 🙄

Sounds like it could be pelvic inflammatory disease.

I was going to say the same.

vipersnest1 · 29/05/2023 21:00

@shestakingtheurine and @custarddish, believe me when I tell you if it doesn't settle, I will be talking to my GP by the end of the week.
Just to add for anyone interested, the doctor told me it was pointless using the balance gel until I'd finished the antibiotics - I've never heard of that before (and I wish now I'd asked for the vaginal gel so the metronidazole doesn't totally wipe out my gut bacteria too).

Update: 'odour' has reduced, but I still feel rubbish and there is no change in the pain. I have got a GP appointment at 10.30, so I hope I'll find out what is going on then.

Good luck Op - hope it's nothing serious

vipersnest1 · 02/06/2023 11:14

Not much news really (although I did realise before I left that the odour what a horrible word hasn't really gone completely). GP said it sounded like classic BV and I've done a self-swab.
He examined me and I'm very tender over my appendix (?) Because of that, he told me if the pain gets any worse I need to call 111 straight away and if it really ramps up to go to A&E.
So, I'm now going to have to email work to let them know that I may well not be in on Monday (unless I feel better between now and then), which is probably a good thing in a way, but I really had hoped it would be sorted by now.
The swab will be back Monday / Tuesday, so meanwhile I'm still clueless as to what's going on.
