Where to relocate with this criteria

Looking to relocate in the next 12 months or so. We' have 3 children who are all at uni so not sure if any of them will be coming to stay with us for a few years or not. d like to relocate to somewhere with this criteria:

Art, culture, museums, theatre
Sailing, water sports access nearby
Countryside not too far.
Fairly safe. Have lived in rough areas so my safe criteria isn't that stringent
Multicultural - we are a mixed race family. DH is white I'm not. My kids all look like me.

Our work is all remote so anywhere is okay.

@continentallentil I've lived there and I agree with the poster who said it was a young persons city- which is why I said Bristol ticks the boxes but with reservations on being fussy - mainly on safety, crime and a lot of pretty grim areas- I would have said Bath (which is where we live) but it's not that diverse - although it is very liberal so no one gives a shit about colour.

Swansea
Beautiful scenery everywhere.
Beaches galore
Close to stunning west Wales
Close to Cardiff
M4 junctions easily accessible
Multi culture due to the university

I would have said kingston /hampton maybe - as you've got the Thames plus water sports centre not far away at wraysbury but depends obviously on your budget too

Anywhere you fancy in Kent . It’s close to the sea , lovely countryside , close to London and Europe is easily accessible. Whitstable / Deal , the villages around Canterbury .

CottonSock · 29/05/2023 16:38

Shrewsbury is a lovely place with minimal diversity and no watersports 😃

CottonSock · 29/05/2023 16:40

Personally I would pick Bristol over Brighton but like both.

Exeter

I'd second the PP who recommended the Wirral/Crosby/Liverpool. Culture, theatre, water sports, countryside, close to North Wales and Chester.

Maybe not sailing in Shrewsbury but there’s rowing/paddle boarding on the river and Ellesmere is close by for sailing.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/05/2023 17:56

@Floralnomad I wouldn't say it's diverse though- and I've lived in Canterbury -

Floralnomad · 29/05/2023 18:08

Canterbury is a university city and I have experience of a couple of the schools and it is quite diverse nowadays

gogohmm · 29/05/2023 18:22

Bristol or greater Bristol area. I live right by the sea. Not the most multi cultural area where I am but quite a few families are, well not white is easiest explanation! Not cheap though so budget is everything. Great music scene, arts, etc. marina or dinghy sailing on Bristol Channel. Walk to countryside, theatre scene good.

Igmum · 29/05/2023 19:07

Manchester. It would be lakes for the water sports but loads of theatres, art galleries etc and a short drive from beautiful countryside

If you have £850'tjen why the bel are you jog looking at
Devon ?? I am going to say this now but DON'T TELL A SOUL... Noss Mayo... ticks ALL your boxes

Crikeyalmighty · 30/05/2023 18:50

With that budget I would join us in Bath- will give you all your cultural stuff- theatres, bars, restaurants, no one will give a shit about mixed race- town is full of all nationalities due to tons of international students and it's very liberal and whilst not on the coast it's got all the water stuff handy at Bristol and chew magma and Bath has really good schools

Bath also has gorgeous countryside literally on the doorstep , masses of good farm shops - etc and great road and rail connections too and lots of different types of housing. My friends son is mixed race and has no problems at all

Chatillon · 31/05/2023 08:18

Yep - actually Bath is a good shout! Not too far from the coast either.
