Where to relocate with this criteria

Looking to relocate in the next 12 months or so. We' have 3 children who are all at uni so not sure if any of them will be coming to stay with us for a few years or not. d like to relocate to somewhere with this criteria:

Art, culture, museums, theatre
Sailing, water sports access nearby
Countryside not too far.
Fairly safe. Have lived in rough areas so my safe criteria isn't that stringent
Multicultural - we are a mixed race family. DH is white I'm not. My kids all look like me.

Our work is all remote so anywhere is okay.

Crosby, close to the beach and watersports centre.
Countryside and all the Liverpool culture in easy driving distance.
Pricy for the Northwest but not compared to the south I don't think.

Brighton, Poole, Bournemouh, Southampton?

Out of those, only Brighton really meets the criteria. There's not much going on culturally in most of Dorset and Hampshire.

Goldrushed · 28/05/2023 15:13

As in museums, galleries etc

EwwSprouts · 28/05/2023 15:16

Keighley on the doorstep of countryside. Water sports at reservoir down the road, Ilkley Lido not too far. Easy access to Bradford for theatre, museums, culture and only 20 miles to Leeds for more.

Budget?

Queenfreak · 28/05/2023 15:48

South East for sure- Brighton area maybe?

luckylavender · 28/05/2023 15:54

Brighton

Restfuluhhcuuh · 28/05/2023 16:06

Thanks some great suggestions. I have lived up north all my life so think would like a change and live a bit more south simply for the nicer weather. I know house prices are more ridiculous down south. I don't think I want to live all the way down to the south coast.

What do you think of Bristol - a friend's DH suggested that.

Edinburgh

Wow, Brighton seems to be a popular suggestion. Maybe I shouldn't completely discount then.

We are planning on narrowing it down to 4 potential places and have then spend a week in each place to get a feel for it.

Sorry didn't see you wanted to head south. I've heard good things about Bristol too.

Lightsgoingout · 28/05/2023 16:44

The wirral / chester / liverpool

Crikeyalmighty · 28/05/2023 16:48

I'm not the biggest Bristol fan having lived there- but it does fit your criteria a lot --- although be careful what bit if you want 'safe' etc - somewhere like Henleaze, westbury on trym, westbury park are good options- clifton is very nice but studenty if that bothers you and 2 of my friends had break ins.

pornhabit · 28/05/2023 16:50

What is the budget for the house??

Madwife123 · 28/05/2023 16:51

I live in Cheshire and would recommend it.

Close enough to Manchester to access museums and gallery’s etc.

Close enough to Wales for the sea and water sports.

Surrounded by countryside!

Most areas very safe but some that I would personally avoid.

Not hugely multicultural but becoming more so and as a lesbian couple we have found the area very tolerant so I don’t expect you would have any problems.

Edinburgh

Turmerictolly · 28/05/2023 17:02

I'd also say Brighton /Hove - South Downs close by, large shopping area including little 'village' areas with their own independent shops. Can be a bit scuzzy in places - nicer parts are ££. Marina, water sports clubs. Loads of arty things to do and Lewes close by too which has loads of stuff going on.

Or SE/E London? Easy to get to the countryside/seaside and water sports at Lea Valley or somewhere like Bewl Water (drive away).

Restfuluhhcuuh · 28/05/2023 17:04

Ooh what about Shrewsbury? Anyone know anything about that?

I should have said i live outside of Manchester so Cheshire wouldn't be a big enough change.
