Drive or not to Greenwich?

We are driving from High Wycombe to London next week, meeting friends in Greenwich but can't decide whether to do public transport or not - my 2yr old will not be constrained!

Any tips on a traffic-free route where we can park and get into town? Was thinking of parking at Stratford and getting the DLR down to Greenwich, but not sure what driving is like in London now. We used to live there but didn't have a car.

I can’t think of much parking in Greenwich

You could park at Lewisham - there’s a shopping centre complex and other local car parks - and then get the dlr a few stops to Greenwich. It’s much shorter and easier than the dlr from Stratford as I think that’s a different line anyway

Sorry if yo are coming from the north then yes you can easily get to Greenwich via train from London Bridge or dlr - which I see does come from Stratford

driving to Lewisham could be trickier for you as it’s slightly south of Greenwich (although only a few minutes drive)

Traffic-free route in London? You are kidding, right?

Train to Marylebone, tube Baker St to Canary Wharf, DLR to Greenwich is by far the easiest thing to do.

Well as I say I used to live there so i was asking relatively...

Happy to get tube/train etc but have buggy 2 other smallies so thought ir would be fun to get dlr, it's step-free etc

Let me re-phrase, traffic/timewise is it better to drive over the top or go around the south of the m25?

Traffic in Greenwich is a complete nightmare these days. We live in Blackheath and drove to Greenwich about a year ago. It took an hour, just completely grid locked. I’d definitely park a bit further out & get the DLR or train.

What’s the route from where you are to the O2 like as there is tons of parking and either the train or Thames clipper to Greenwich .

I decided to get public transport to Greenwich the other week for an event, and I was glad I did as it meant I wasn't tied down to returning to where the car was parked. We bussed to the Blackheath end of the park, then went through the park to the Cutty Sark end then bussed home with lots of exploring in between. That doesn't help you though! Traffic was rather bad as they have pedestrianised/bike lanes everywhere. (A good thing)

I think parking at Stratford shopping centre then getting the DLR in is a good shout. (I have seen this option recommended on here before) This also gives you the option to bus/boat to North Greenwich/O2/Cable Car then Jubilee line back to Stratford. (As you can tell I'm a fan of circular routes!)
