T1 diabetic teen applying for his first PT job

Posting in Chat for traffic.

You were all so helpful on Boxing Day when my son was presenting as very ill, and urged me to get him to A&E. You were all right, he was T1 diabetic and in DKA.

He's managed BEAUTIFULLY. Has put on 20kg since Christmas, is much more like himself again and has just finished his first set of N5 exams (Scotland).

Next teen milestone... He has an interview for his first part-time job on Wednesday. It's at McDonald's.

Should he tell them he's T1 diabetic in the interview? I know it shouldn't go against him, but I worry it will. It's a fairly active job and he'd have to take the odd break to treat a hypo. He can scan his arm to keep an eye on his blood. He's really good at managing his blood sugar and hypos otherwise.

Any advice welcome!

Set his low alarm higher, say 5 or 6 so that he doesn’t need to take a break to treat and recover from a hypo he can prevent them before they happen

My son always mentions it after the job is offered. Never had any issues. He has worked part time in retail and in demanding warehouse style kind whilst studying.

I would mention it after job offer.
