Moving to Winchester with small children!

Anyone in this area with any tips?

We currently have a very nice life in Devon but I have the chance to move to Winchester for a better paid job.

Is it really expensive? Would we manage okay on about £85k?

What is nice to do with little kids around there in terms of green spaces, outdoor activities etc?

Please hit me with any tips!

There is SO MUCH to do with little kids in Winchester & the surrounding areas. Well recommended Smile

It definitely is very expensive but there are some lovely towns / villages on the outskirts which make it more "affordable".

If you find you don't get enough "bang for your buck" on rightMove etc, perhaps look around Colden Common / Bishopstoke / Chandlers Ford / Eastleigh / Bishops Waltham

For good schools & catchment areas, Chandlers Ford is a good area on outskirts & very easily accessible to Winchester.

Currently have total brain fog so will come up with some other ideas & reccs.

I grew up there and loved it. It is insanely expensive (partly why I don't live there now) but like marbles said, your money goes further around the edges. My school friends all lived in Weeke, Littleton, Kingsworthy/Springvale and further out towards Sutton Scotney/Winston whereas we were a bit further in.

I think Stanmore and Badger Farm are a bit more studenty now so might prefer to avoid those areas. Friends now live in Eastleigh or Romsey if they can't afford Winchester.

I grew up there too, loved it & make every excuse to head back there where possible Grin

Eastleigh used to be nicknamed "Beastleigh" but it's nothing like how it used to be. It's one stop on the train from Winchester & lots of friends have now settled there or Hedge end (a couple stops away) to enjoy benefits of Winchester living at much more affordable rates.

Winchester is one of my favourite places.

Beastleigh 😂

Don’t forget Amazingstoke the other way up the train line 😁

Romsey and Hedge End are lovely if you want more for your money

I was reminiscing with friends over the free tickets to Martine’s nightclub that were sent out to everyone who turned 18 in the 90s, along with a letter from Gerry Malone, the then [Conservative] MP, asking for your vote. No chance Gerry. I don’t think we went to Martine’s either.

It’s a beautiful place but the traffic is appalling these days.
