What do you plus size ladies wear to make you feel nice

lancslass17 · 27/05/2023 08:18

I'm almost 40 size 18.

I want some everyday clothes that make me feel nice on a regular day chasing a 5 year old around.

Dresses don't really work for me in nice weather due to chub run.
I live in jeans and a baggy top😞

Get chub run shorts; opens up skirts and dresses and you won't look back!

TheOpeningActofSpring · 27/05/2023 08:20

If you like dresses but struggle with chub rub, get yourself some snag tights chub rub pants - game changer for me.

TheOpeningActofSpring · 27/05/2023 08:22

These ones here - they are so light you won’t notice you wear them.

This stuff is great for chafing.

Same size as you and in my 40's, get some shorts and then try different things on. I like H and M for summer dresses and some of their pull on wide leg trousers are great, but beware of sizes as i find they come up large. I also buy from Cos as they do good fitting dresses.

gogohmm · 27/05/2023 08:24

Chub rub shorts are a game changer. Bring older than you I actually have the modibodi ones which not only prevent church rub but are useful for unpredictable periods and a weak bladder for any physical activity/coughing. Not cheap but worth it for the confidence

DahliaRose · 27/05/2023 08:29

Also rather than shorts- you can get anti chaffing bands to wear around your thighs.

I discovered these a few years ago and took them on holiday and they are amazing.

I used to wear shorts but found them too hot or they left a line under my dresses so I got these instead.

OVISSA Thigh Bands Flexible anti-chafing on the Thighs with a Satin Lining Slimming Bands Invisible under Clothes Anti Friction Strip Essential for Every Woman TS500 amzn.eu/d/8Ne4QlN

They don't slide down or budge. You can get lace ones too if you want something a bit fancier but these are great for everyday

I've discovered I actually like the way I look in jumpsuits (never thought I would ever wear a jumpsuit!)

www.peacocks.co.uk/4405167-black-plain.html

I bought this from Peacocks (2 sizes up, so it doesn't cling to my stomach) and I've worn it with a white linen shirt tied up to excentuate my waist. I had so many compliments at work. The problem is I prefer trying stuff on before buying but there isn't a lot of choice in stores.

I bought a very similar jumpsuit in Sainsburys as I liked the look so much, they have 25% off their clothes at the moment too 😊

IHeartGeneHunt · 27/05/2023 08:59

I wear dresses that fit properly, good bra which makes a huge difference, and chub rub shorts. George at Asda are surprisingly flattering in large sizes.
I'm the same size and age as you!

Sherrystrull · 27/05/2023 09:09

I have bought some loose, light dresses from shein. They wash and wear well, are flattering and have changed my confidence levels massively. They won't break the bank either.

There's a great shop in Leeds called the style attic. Look on Facebook at their page as they use a size 12 & size 18 model for their clothes & talk a lot about how to style them. They have loads of options & you can order online.

IVbumble · 27/05/2023 10:45

Head on over to https://www.popsyclothing.co.uk/

They also have a fb page for preloved dresses & a group called 'frocks & friends' where people of all sizes post photos so that you can get an idea of how a particular dress might look. It's a really friendly community & chub rub is also addressed.

It depends where you carry your weight. I'm about the same size but carry it all my stomach so dresses don't work, make me look pregnant. Instead I got for separates. In the summer I like linen cropped trousers (I get mine from M&S , Evans or Next). The bigger sizes sell out quickly in the summer though so you need to buy early on in the season. Intend to go for navy and black, then you can wear pretty much any t-shirt/top with them.

IhearyouClemFandango · 27/05/2023 11:47

I'm the same size as you and 42. Today I am wearing some very soft denim wide leg cropped jeans, a linen 'shell' top with tie shoulders and saltwater sandals. This is pretty much my uniform, as well as dresses with chub rub shorts.

Or Chino shorts/denim shorts with this sort of vest.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 27/05/2023 14:14

I wear jersey dresses with primark chin rub or cycling shorts underneath.

My other favourite hot weather outfits are the M&S Goodmove double layer shorts with a hip length/longline loose tshirt.

JFDIYOLO · 27/05/2023 15:20

Avoid the loose baggy tent approach - they make me look bigger and more shapeless. Fit well under the boobs, which is usually the slimmest part, then loose downwards.

Good well fitting bra in natural fibres.

A pretty fan - learn how to flick and flip like a Spanish dancer and wield it with style. It will be your best friend during menopause and I got loads of compliments.

Flat sandals in metallic, brown or black leather.

A striking piece of jewellery - pendant, cuff, earrings - and shades.

Hair off the ears if wearing a hat.

I am a size 22 and these were game changers for me as I found wearing what was effectively cut off tights over underwear too hot so these combine both...yes they are a tad on the pricey side but they last forever and you can often get good deals on them.

I second those

Starsong82 · 27/05/2023 16:53

Deodorant or liquid talc on your inner thighs! I'm the same age and size and since I started doing this I can wear dresses without rubbing my thighs raw. Cycling shorts/chub rub shorts also work. I live in maxi dresses in the summer, yours have some lovely ones that won't break the bank x
