Just pulled tissue or something out of my son’s neck

My 10 year old has had a little, what I thought was a spot on the back of his neck that he wouldn’t let me touch for a couple of weeks. He’s just been away for a week on camp and was cuddled up to me when I saw it again and went to squeeze it, but couldn’t.
He reluctantly allowed me to get the tweezers and as I pulled, about 3cm of like paper or tissue pulled out of a tiny spot sized hole! Wtf!
Anyway, I got it all out and put some antiseptic on it and he says it doesn’t hurt but my questions are: has anyone had anything like this before? What could it be and how could it have got there and do you reckon there’s anything else I should do? It looked fine afterwards.

Can you post a photo? Presumably it's something his body made, rather than something that got stuck under his skin.

Well, human bodies can’t grow paper, so it won’t be that! But the contents of a cyst can look like white papery stuff, so that’s probably what it was. Unless you got out the sac which forms the cyst wall it will probably refill over time, but the papery stuff you describe might well have been the sac tissue. Keep it clean until it heals up, and watch for redness and anything coming out of it, which might indicate an infection.

Oh I threw it away actually (sorry), but I’m sure it was a tiny piece of tissue. It wasn’t pus or anything like that. The only thing I could think of was you know when they have a haircut and they put that tissue round the neck? Like whether there had been a nick and something had got in and healed around it?

My DH has had this for over a year. As pp says it’s the internal of a cyst (🤢) and it refills every now and again. He gets antibiotics for it but it’s never actually went away.

Probably a mix of sebum and dead skin trapped in a pore.
I had something similar on my leg as a teenager but was more stringy than papery.
Do you have a picture?

Ozgirl75 · 26/05/2023 22:54

I’ll keep an eye on it (and definitely take a picture next time!) - the top bit of whatever it was, was poking slightly out (which is why I thought it was a white head) and I grabbed it and just pulled it out. It was definitely all one “thing”

It looked like, if you took a very small bit of tissue and rolled it back and forth in your fingers loads of times. It was that texture.

Watch Dr.Pimplepopper and see if anything similar on there?

Ozgirl75 · 26/05/2023 23:16

I just don’t think I could. I weirdly love sorting spots and whatever the heck this was on me or my kids, but not watching someone doing the same on a stranger.

Cyst wall. DP described exactly the same when the git he had a large cyst on his scalp break down when I was at work.

No it didn’t look like that at all luckily!

Could be a cyst then. I’ll keep an eye on it and see if it comes back.

It sounds like the casing of a cyst to me. Keep an eye on it - it will likely just go away now.

SinnerBoy · 27/05/2023 08:23

I had big white spots after shingles and squeezed one on my ribs. My first thought was "Where did that lump of tissue come from?" I realised it was just the spot stuff.

I think it's almost certainly nothing to worry about, but keep an eye on it and if you do feel concerned, get him to the doctor and don't rely on a load of internet ingoramuses!

You can 100% ingest a ‘foreign body’ and the human body will find a way of rejecting it somewhere. I sleep on a feather pillow and I have pulled tiny feathers from my skin twice where I presume, I inhaled them in my sleep and my body pushed them out
