Non Alcoholic ‘Grown Up’ Drinks

I’m alcohol intolerant and I’m just after ideas of refreshing drinks, to have at bbqs, that sort of thing. I normally have a Pepsi Max can or maybe San Pellegrino but sometimes I feel like I want something a bit more exciting.

Please can you share your ideas and favourites. Thank you.

I like elderflower cordial and tonic. Also ginger cordial and pineaple juice

I would do what I call a "gin teapot" without the gin. So loads of ice, some cucumber, some fresh mint, add elderflower cordial then pour lemonade over it. Let it sit for a bit - but it's delicious! We used to serve it from a teapot (the gin version) on camping holidays.

The Fevertree sodas and flavoured tonics are great - my fave is the blood orange one.

Our local pub stocks Square Root sodas and serves in nice glasses, garnished like alcoholic drinks. The passion fruit one is great!

QueenOfThorns · 26/05/2023 22:55

The Belvoir Farm raspberry lemonade is very nice indeed Smile

Tiredmummaoftwo · 26/05/2023 23:26

Seedlip and ginger ale

nachotemple · 26/05/2023 23:29

have you seen the Sentia? acts on the same GABA receptors as alcohol and gives you a mild tipsy feeling but no alcohol in it. Tastes a little odd but i def felt a little happy with it!

FinallyHere · 27/05/2023 07:28

I avoid sugar, sweeteners and alcohol which makes it trickier.

A jug of water with some or a combination of mint, lemon, lime or ginger is my usual go to. Cucumber in the summer.

A glass of sparkling with two drops of angostura bitters is my 'grown up' version. It's not zero alcohol but negligible alcohol and really tastes different

mindutopia · 27/05/2023 11:45

I don’t like sweet drinks usually, so usually go for kombucha or a tonic with ice and lemon (with or without AF gin). There’s also a lovely AF sparkling mead by Bemuse. I really like the basil and cardamom one.

mindutopia · 27/05/2023 11:49

Also if you like beer but can’t have the alcohol, I really like Corona Cero with a lime.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/05/2023 12:37

My favourite AF beer in Erdinger. I also usually have a case of LA Brewery Kombucha in.

Not quite AF, but I like High Sobriety cider too, at 1%.

Kentishbornknitter · 27/05/2023 12:46

Tangueray AF gin with Fevertree aromatics tonic and frozen strawberries instead of ice. Gorgeous!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 27/05/2023 12:53

I tend to drink flavoured tonic waters because I like the bitter 'edge', and so many non-alcoholic drinks taste really sweet. Which is fine for the odd one or two, but if you're having a day in the sun with constant drinks, it can put your teeth on edge a bit after the third.

GeneHuntsCowboyBoots · 27/05/2023 12:57

These are all so helpful! Thank you all for sharing. I’ve written myself a list and shall work my way through them, to see which are my favourites. As daft as it sounds, I didn’t realise there would be so many options!

A dollop of mango purée in ginger beer makes a nice bbq mocktail

Augend23 · 27/05/2023 14:30

I made homemade raspberry lemonade last weekend which was utterly delicious.

I juiced 4 really big lemons, added about 8 desert spoons of sugar, and then mashed maybe 20? raspberries into it with a pestle. Put it through a sieve and then diluted it about 1:5 (concentrate to water) and added ice. It was utterly delicious.

I am also a big fan of homemade iced tea - I like it made with earl grey or lady grey, lemon juice, some sliced oranges and lemons put into the teapot while it's hot. You can add sugar but I find as long as i don't let the tea steep too long it doesn't need it.

I think my other alcohol free drink recommendations will be already on your list from the rest of the thread.

Anything by Belvoir

crosstalk · 27/05/2023 15:55

A really good tomato cocktail with masses of ice, Lea & Perrins, lemon. Or a bottle of Big Tom. Trouble is it's a bit like food ... but it means you eat less anyway so win win.

Chatillon · 27/05/2023 16:24

Pentire. A taste of Cornish sea breeze.

Yes I like Belvoir ginger beer and love Fever Tree ginger beer. It's so fiery it burns your lips. Got to be the beer though and not the ale.

DelilahBucket · 27/05/2023 16:46

I really rate the M&S no alcohol rose "prosecco". It's as close to the real thing I've found so far.

LondonQueen · 27/05/2023 16:48

I drank bottles and bottles of appletiser when pregnant. Feels like a treat and in a grown up looking bottle. I still indulge in them when driving.

WellTidy · 27/05/2023 16:54

Ginger beer and a squirt of lime

Peach juice, purred raspberries and soda water

reluctantbrit · 27/05/2023 17:12

Belvoir Raspberry lemonade or Mojito.

Thatchers does an alcohol free cider which taste like the real stuff

Freixenet has a decent rose sparkling wine.

This is a decent sparkling white wine with no alcohol:
