Weight gain after gastric sleeve surgery

How do people gain weight again after this surgery? Does the capacity for food increase? Genuine question.

I saw a TV programme once where this man had it done then he was blending up mars bars and drinking them.

Yes, a gastric band is not a panacea for weight loss. If you consistently eat enough that you expand your stomach more than normal then you'll eventually negate all benefit of the sleeve.

As with all weight loss, it's ultimately down to our own behaviour.

I keep seeing people saying they’ve re#gained the weight with a sleeve and going for revisions to a bypass. (I’m on a weight loss surgery group) The sleeve (indeed the bypass) won’t work long term if you keep eating the wrong thing.

I had VSG in 2013. Lost 13st, then regained a stone with each of my pregnancies (4 in total). A good summary is I can't eat a whole apple, but I can eat 4 digestive biscuits. I've also been left with long-term vitamin malabsorption problems. However, it saved my life and enabled me to have my children, so I'm happy. I'll always have a weight problem, but it's one that I now control rather than it being out of control.

I think the issue is that it doesn’t address the psychological causes of obesity

If you constantly graze and eat more calories than you burn then you will gain weight. The sleeve reduces the amount you can eat in one sitting but if you eat small amounts frequently the calories can mount up

I've gained 14lbs after my sleeve. Reached 11stone and am now 12.

Starting diet tomorrow. I've just been eating badly. Sugary things, crisps etc

Thanks for the info. So what is the point in doing it? Perhaps most people keep most of the weight off?

I think the average is 60% of excess weight loss after 5 years. Some lose more, some less. It's not a magic wand.

Well I've gained 14lbs but lost 100lbs initially so being 86lbs down is why I did it.

I could NEVER have lost that on my own. I tired for 10 years.

Now I just have to make sure I check myself and lose it when I gain a stone.
