My iphone won't turn on at all

Hi everyone, please could someone help me. Yesterday my iphone went black and it hasn't turned on since. I have tried charging it for hours, doing a forced restart, charging it from my laptop, and it still won't turn on. It had 58% battery when it died.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? How did you fix it?

Normally charging it and a restart works when my iPhone does this.
Have you tried another cable in case your charger isn't connecting properly?

I've tried two chargers and I've tested them both with another iphone to make sure they work. My phone won't charge at all with either of them

There's videos on YouTube that explain what to do in this instance. It happened to mine once and dh sorted it. It will come back to life, try not to panic.

Can you get to an Apple shop OP? The Geniuses are very helpful on the whole. You can book an appointment here:

I had a look on YouTube and they told me to do the forced restart or connect it to itunes. I tried to connect it to itunes but I need a verification code to login but the verification code would come to my phone and I don't have use of my phone right now.

Is it definitely not charging / switching on as opposed to the screen having died? This happened to me but turned out it was the screen that was buggered. Have you tried ringing / texting it to see if it vibrates etc?

I think it's definitely not charging. I had received some Whatsapp messages ( I have WhatsApp on my tablet) and the phone never made a noise. It has been happening a lot over the past few months but usually I can fix it by doing a forced restart but I have tried that about 20 times and it's not working

I'm not near one. I thought about going to a repair service but it will probably be really expensive so I'm trying to fix it myself first

The battery's die in some models and apple will change them for free on some models .

Call apple and ask? No idea what iPhone you have.

twigy100 · 26/05/2023 12:56

This happened to me yesterday, I woke up and it had turned itself off and wouldn't come back on. Went to the Apple Store where they forced a restart. It needed a software update, setting>general> software. They said if that didn't work and it happened again to book in at the Genius Bar for a diagnostic test but touch wood has been fine since the update

OP, just go to any phone shop. My iPhone did that a few years ago and i went to the nearest shop and the guys in there managed to switch it on in seconds. I had just updated the IOS and it was something to do with that.

It's an iphone 8. I didn't buy it directly from apple. It was a refurbished iphone. I don't think apple will change it for free in that case.

That's interested I also updated the iOS recently. Maybe it could be that. How much did it cost?

It happened to my iphone once - the black screen of death.

Nothing could be done as although I had insured it, because it was a software fault, rather then me dropping or losing it, Vodafone insurance wouldn't help.

Apple wouldn't help either as it was out of guarantee. They did allow me to purchase a reconditioned one at a lower price.

Hope you can get it working soon.

Oh dear that is a real shame. What caused the black screen of death?

They didn't say. 😢

All I know is that I had looked after it well. It was around two years old at the time.

Ilovebountybars · 26/05/2023 13:05

The refurbished company I bought it from has just replied saying will fix it for free but I must bring it in myself. I can't do that because I am staying in a foreign country for a few months. So frustrating
