Pendant tarnishing within a couple of hours of wear?

I spent a LOT of money on a silver pendant but it tarnished quite literally within two hours of me wearing it. This can't be right can it? It arrived tarnished on the back too. Came off quickly enough with a polishing cloth, but does this sound normal? Do I have to polish it at the end of every day? I've never had silver do this before but then I've never spent quite so much on an item....help!

Are you wearing perfume or body lotion or wearing it sweating during a gym workout? or could hairspray have got on it?

Tarnish is a normal process yes, it can be impacted by so many things, if you have a naturally acidic skin, or are wearing products (perfume / moisturiser etc) that are acidic it can speed up the tarnishing process.

My sister can tarnish silver in a day or so, whereas on me it takes ages (months).

Sweat / perfume / moisturiser are a good place to start making changes if it's tarnishing super quickly!

Oh thank you, I'm so relieved it's not an issue with the pendant itself/bad silver or something! I do wear body cream so will give that a rest tomorrow and see how I go

Just one more q! Is there anything I can buy that might prevent tarnishing? Or does anybody know of a super duper polishing cloth? I have a Gordon's one but doubt it's the best
