We are looking at a new kitchen, ideally not on finance. What are your cheapish hacks for a decent kitchen? Is there a company you recommend above others?

IKEA. We have renovated and sold several times, using various price points of kitchen and even the one 3 times the price of ikea wasn't any better.

Builders don't like them because they don't t get a discount but the quality is excellent IME.

I've just had a new kitchen from Wickes and I would definitely NOT recommend them.

They've fucked up at just about every step of the way and their customer service is worse than useless.

Sorry, I know that wasn't what you asked OP but I would definitely avoid Wickes if I were you.

www.edenkitchens.com used them for both an office refurb and my newly renovated kitchen, they designed and installed my fireplace and tv wall also.

Another vote for DIY kitchens.

Use [[https://planner.diy-kitchens.com/ to plan it. Using another planners ideas to start with if you want.

I love mine (use drawers not cupboards for base units (no wasted space) pull out units for full height cupboards and upward bifold for any high units (easy to open - no head banging)

We got ours from DIY Kitchens nearly 2 years ago. We're really happy with it.

Houseplantmad · 22/06/2023 23:03

Another happy DIY customer here.
Didn’t like Wickes, Magnet (both couldn’t be bothered with the design) and our friends had a nightmare with Wren so we gave them a swerve too.

CookieCutter8 · 22/06/2023 23:08

I had a fabulous experience with Wickes last year. Great customer service, friendly helpful fitters and chuffed to bits with our new kitchen 😀

@CookieCutter8 oooh can I come live with you?!

Of course! I could make you a little bed in one of the island drawers- no idea what else to fill them all with!😂

Tilllly · 23/06/2023 11:21

🤣🤣🤣

And just chuck food at me at random intervals 😁

another vote for DIY Kitchens we used wickes to get the plans but didnt go with them as they were £2000 more expensive than DIY for a lesser product 2 years on my kitchen still looks as good as it did brand new, if you can visit their showroom in Pontefract its brilliant they have mini kitchens and loads of info, great helpful staff and their prices for ordering are clear as each unit is priced individually on the order forms

Frosty1000 · 23/06/2023 13:00

We're just about to press order on a DIY kitchen. Avoid wren and Howdens is just shifty.

Just bought the services of an independent kitchen designer and they will produce a detailed design for whoever we use.

We are building a new square room so DIY are suitable and good quality for our requirements.

I would also recommend joining the DIY facebook forum as it's really helpful and you can see how other have installed theirs
