Containers for freezing milk?

Rather than freezing a whole carton, can I use a Sistema water bottle? Or a jam jar? I’d leave some space for liquid expansion etc but does it have to be thicker glass or something? Will the milk make my Sistema bottle smell?

Just buy some one pint milks and save the containers to freeze it in.
