Has anyone had a facial mole removed?

I have had two raised, fleshy moles on my face since forever. I have always detested them and even more so since my daughter started calling them my witches moles, when she was little. I have been so conscious of them since.
I know I won’t get them removed via the NHS so will need to look into this privately.
Has anyone had a mole removed purely for aesthetic reasons?
How was it? Did it leave a scar? Was it super expensive and were you glad you had it done?

The moles look like this but are brown.

Yes! I have as several shave excisions. I've paid £500-700 for each. No scars and no regrets, except one of them keeps bloody coming back 🙃

Twospaniels · 23/05/2023 21:04

I had one like that removed about 25 years ago. They did a local anaesthetic and then ‘shaved’ it off. I had one stitch put in. Now 25 yrs later on, there is just a white scar there, much less noticeable than the mole.
I did get it done on the NHS but as I say it was 25 yrs ago.
I was really glad to have it gone.

Yes I've had 2 removed. Left the faintest white scar that you would only notice if you were looking for it in a magnifying mirror. This it cost about £750. I think it was something like £500 for one inc consultation then £250 for any extra.

Worth every penny.

I had one removed last year. it was flesh colour.
they shaved it off and then he burnt the area a bit.
It was done privately at a GP centre near me and I think it cost about £120. There was a 6 month waiting list.

Yummymummy2020 · 23/05/2023 21:09

I had one off and am always glad I did as it was on my nose and drove me mad. No real downtime after just couldn’t wear make up at the start. No pain after, only suffering was the sting of the local to get it numb!

narwhalsarereal · 23/05/2023 21:09

I had one removed a few months ago but via the nhs due to it changing.

Mine was cut out so I had internal & external stitches.

The scar is fading nicely now & it wasn't too bad having removed.

ToBMarried24 · 23/05/2023 21:10

It never really left a scare either. Maybe the faintest of dips but it wouldn’t be noticeable to anyone. I have a bigger scare from a chicken pox I had as a child!

Chispazo · 23/05/2023 21:10

Yes, I had one on my lip removed and it was 600 euro (not in uk). It grew back and he re- did it for free, with 5 students watching. He dug it out and stitched it up. So it will not grow back. There is a scar but I don't see the scar really. Its there, but I hate the scar far less than I hated the mole.

somethingischasingme · 23/05/2023 21:12

I had 3 removed 20 years ago on nhs. I think she used a scalpel then cauterised them. The scabs fell off in a week. I have no scarring.

Lilliflip · 23/05/2023 21:16

Yes just had a small Seb Keratosis removed from side of my face about 4 weeks ago. It was frozen with liquid nitrogen. It went black then just dried up and fell off. Just a small pale mark now.

peanutbutt · 23/05/2023 21:26

I've had a papilloma removed by my mouth with the NHS about six months ago. I am left with a slight dip in my skin which I will micro needle smooth in a few months.

I was fortunate to have it removed at the same time as a 'suspicious' mole on my back. Glad to have them both gone as they'd caused me concern.

Thetoasterhasbroken · 23/05/2023 21:26

I do very much wish I’d had them removed years ago when I could probably have had it done on the NHS. Think I’d better start saving up.

I had two removed from my facep about 5 years ago on the nhs. One bled occasionally hence NHS, and they removed the other for good measure! They were shaved and not cut out, and I was warned they’d both grow back. No sign of that yet. I’ve had friends who have had moles cut out and there is some scarring as you’d expect, but smaller than the mole. One of the moles was on the side of my face near my ear and I still feel a sensation when I touch it, and hair grows out of it sometimes just like when it was a mole!

Remaker · 23/05/2023 21:32

I had one on my nose that I disliked so I went to have it shaved off by a plastic surgeon. He was 99% sure it was just a mole but sent it off for pathology anyway. I was in the 1% and it was a skin cancer so I had to go in for surgery so they could remove all the margins and then put a small skin graft on from my forehead. You can’t even see the scar, very glad I went through a plastic surgeon.

I had one removed from my face a few years ago, it was quite large, very dark, quite raised and a small child once asked why I had one of those things on my face like a witch. It also grew coarse hairs frequently so that I was constantly plucking it. I was told by my GP that it would be considered cosmetic and so I would likely have to pay, the lovely plastic surgeon asked me if it bled, I said no and he winked at me so I said yes. He did a lovely job of removing it, unfortunately it got infected and so left a little scar. Nothing major and cannot be seen under foundation. I am one of those moley people and have had several removed because they looked suspicious, but only one ever was and I was lucky that it was on my back.

gonnaketchamall · 23/05/2023 21:54

How do you find someone to treat this? I have a mole on my face I would love to have removed. GP won't refer me and private health insurance won't cover as nothing has changed. So I will have to pay but not sure where to start looking to find someone- any advice ? Thanks

VintageThoughts · 23/05/2023 22:17

I've had some cut out and a couple on my face lasered off.

I've got two more I want doing. Think it's about £500 for both.

If you Google mole removal near me it should bring up lots of results.

IamSlave · 23/05/2023 22:42

I have a strange small white thing like over a black head. One doctor gave it a strange name I can't remember.
One called it milia.

IamSlave · 23/05/2023 22:43

@VintageThoughts but who to trust with you face

VintageThoughts · 24/05/2023 07:06

The company I used is quite well known and has been mentioned on here before too.

It's quite a way from me but worth the drive. It was called Good Skin Days in Guiseley near Leeds.

VintageThoughts · 24/05/2023 07:07

Sorry, that was for @IamSlave

Iwantmybed · 24/05/2023 07:12

Yes, I had a 1cm diameter dark hairy mole removed from my jawline when I was a teenager on the NHS. I have a feint scar now but it's far better than it was.

Thetoasterhasbroken · 24/05/2023 07:39

That’s my concern IamSlave, I think I will start with my local private hospital see if they can help.

I had one on my cheek removed. It changed and was unusual so the NHS did it, it’s left a scar that no one notices, only I really know it’s there. It was very quick, felt like it only took a couple of minutes.
