Best cutlery

I'm looking for new cutlery, so much to choose from and I'm getting confused.

So, what I want is

18/10 stainless steel
good quality that will last a lifetime
won't rust
shiny
plain
modern
good size head on the spoon and fork
upto £300

I only need a table knife, fork and spoon (teaspoons not that important)

Can you recommend anything? TY

I absolutely love my Alessi cutlery that I got on a Tesco coupon deal about 12 years ago! It's the best so heavy and beautiful. I'll never afford anything as nice

I second Robert Welch. We got the Radford collection for our wedding and it's still as good as new fifteen years later I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/robert-welch-radford-teaspoon/p230426121?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Funnily enough, we've got both Robert Welch and Alessi, and I would say the Alessi has lasted better. Still looks brand new.

cherrypied · 23/05/2023 20:44

Team Alessi @InceyWinceySpidy

David Mellor (friends have it) is really nice but $$$$$- maybe a sale purchase?

I don't like the Robert Welch signature branding but appreciate that is very weird of me.

I do like cutlery and I'm a bit picky.

Solengen stylish good quality not cheap but worth it

I bought “bead “ cutlery as my DH and DS are buggers for losing teaspoons. Had it for several years, bunged in the dishwasher and no problems at all. I buy it in my local hardware shop about £1.50-£2 a piece

Toastnjams · 23/05/2023 22:53

Thanks for all the suggestions. I love the David Mellor but it's really expensive :(

Robert Welch is gorgeous and hard wearing

I love Viners Eden.

Any thoughts on Stellar Winchester?

I too have the Alessi from the Tesco coupons and it’s still in great shape. Lovely simple style and a great weight.

I'm watching with interest as also need a set. I've read that something heavier in the hand feels more luxurious/expensive.

My sharp kitchen knives are made by Global - I have had some of them for more than 30 years and they are still like new.
They do a range of table cutlery - https://www.globalknives.uk/accessories-c11/table-cutlery-c93

We also got the Alessi cutlery on the Tesco deal several years ago and it's fantastic. Lovely weight and still looks like new.

Doingmybest12 · 24/05/2023 03:44

We have stellar , have done for 30 years. It is very good. Comfortable to handle, goes in dish washer .

Frenchfancy · 24/05/2023 05:39

We have the Villeroy and Boch Vivo set. It's not expensive so we bought 3 sets and never run out even when the dishwasher is full. It has a nice hand feel, and comes with dessert forks which we use more than I thought.

bluebirdsongs · 24/05/2023 06:20

I have stellar Rochester & I love it. I have it 8 years & looks good & 2 people I know have bought the same set based on using mine

Probably true. I'm not sure you have to spend a lot on cutlery for it to be hardwearing, you just need to find a design you like.

We have some that is similar to this, but not Habitat branded. It cost under a tenner a set nearly 30 years ago and it's still as good as new, despite near daily dishwashering.

WMF still going strong after 23 years.

Beebumble2 · 24/05/2023 11:23

We have had David Mellor stainless steel cutlery for 30 years and used everyday. It’s UK made and we bought it from his shop in Derbyshire.
Our best’ is Arthur Price stainless steel , once again made in the UK, we’ve had it many years but not used every day.

SoShallINever · 24/05/2023 11:41

Rattail (ours is Arthur Price) is a very classic design that looks modern and doesn't date. Ours was bought 30 years ago, still as good as new.

CountessBathorysBeautySecrets · 24/05/2023 11:43

I have the Alessi cutlery too but as the handles are so heavy they always seem to be dropping off plates (that are being carried) and on the floor. It's good quality but the gravitational pull is real!

haggisaggis · 24/05/2023 11:50

We got the Alessi on the Tesco deal years ago too - still love it. Also have a Stellar set (could be the Winchester - mine just says "Stellar" on it but looks similar) which is very like the Alessi so when we have a crowd at Christmas it fits in. Both are good sets and are still shiny.
