I’ve been trying to work something out and just wondered - what sort of job/career makes that’s sort of amount (5k per month / £60k per year actual take home amount)

No training and minimal work experience but all have qualifications so there’s potential I think. We have had conversations over the last few weeks (initiated by them) but it’s hard to work out how they’d manage given they’d need childcare which is so expensive as the couple have a toddler and their adult dd at home has a child too so x2 childcare.
Both In the couple have gcses (good grades too) , Mum has 2 a levels . Adult dd gcses and A level so all intelligent but some bad circumstances have led to some issues and they are so keen to work

I’ve suggested they speak to their benefits advisor as well but I was just looking at rough figures with them for childcare and outgoings and they’d need so much but with 3 adults willing to work maybe between them it’s doable.

I literally don’t have a clue as work part time as a SE cleaner and then volunteer but I don’t have rent etc. I’m just looking for some inspiration for them

They are very unlikely to get any job that pays them £5k each from the get go. These kind of salaries require training, a trade or degree, and about 10 years worth of experience.
however, if they need £5k together, then that is much more achievable

I have 20 years experience, a relevant degree and am a Snr Director in Clinical Development. Salary is £110k and my take home is a bit over £5k. My role requires fairly specific qualifications so not something you can walk off the street and do!

IT project/program managers can earn that. I remember earning just over £5k a year when I first started working full time!

Senior nurse

What nurse is TAKING HOME 60 grand?

followmyflow · 24/05/2023 18:34

I think the fact that there are 3 adults in the house makes 5k a month household take-home pay very achievable. They would only need to be earning around 1.6-1.7k each take-home

Not sure about 90k but my friend is a senior nurse. She’s on 90k

But they don't want to do that because then they'll need to factor in 3 lots of childcare

Mumofsons87 · 24/05/2023 18:48

5k per month 12months of the year is exactly 60k take home.

Mumofsons87 · 24/05/2023 18:52

Here in ireland that would be Software Engineer, Accountant , engineering manager in med tech. Junior consultant MD.
Aldi store managers gross upto 92k so close but not quite there And area manager would get there I think. Would need minimum 110 gross to clear 60k take home. Everything after 75k gross is taxed to the nose. Would take home max 40% of anything over 75k gross.

Missingpop · 24/05/2023 18:55

I find this post quite bizarre; young couple; 2 kids a couple of GCSE’s & A levels between them but neither want to work?
so why the fucking hell are you asking for salaries that have e a take home pay of 5 grand a month? If they can’t motivate themselves giving them jobs they could train for to earn that kind of money really won’t motivate them; it sounds like they’re quite happy on benefits & sit on their backsides whilst we all slog our guts out for them.

Figures dont add up.
60k after tax etc wouldnt clear 5 k.

5k per month 12months of the year is exactly 60k take home.

RockyReef · 24/05/2023 18:57

Four members of my close family earn that or more - one is a middle manager for a big online company (she earns the most at £150k), another is a smaller dept director at a pharmaceutical company, another is a civil engineer, and the last one is a programmer but based in London so earns more than other areas of the country perhaps. I am a specialist in my field and in a senior role but in the public sector so I earn a pittance in comparison, but would be on about 95k for the same role in the private sector which would be roughly equivalent to £5k take home pay.

Loads of corporate jobs in central London. Most of my team in finance are on that or more.

rosyAndMoo · 24/05/2023 19:07

For a take home of 5k per month you’d need a salary of about 90-100k, approx 1/4 to 1/3 of a gross salary goes to tax, NI and pension contributions.

@lateSeptember1964 where are you earning 100k as a nurse...point me in that direction please, I'd love to!

I know three city lawyers, under 40, who earn much much more than that and then get bonuses. They work incredibly long hours.

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 24/05/2023 19:35

Bricklaying - a brickie can earn £80k a year with graft. Check out NHBC bricklaying apprenticeships. I work for them - it’s an accelerated programme and excellent earning potential. It’s for all ages, not just teenagers.

YouJustDoYou · 24/05/2023 19:36

Iwant2stayanon · 24/05/2023 19:39

I take home just over £5k after tax and pension and I’m a board level director on approx. £115k.

thewillowbunnies · 24/05/2023 19:43

It's mad all of these super senior people only earning £5k a month take home pay.

My husband pays his labourers £1k a week.

The woman who does my nails takes home £4k a month - and she doesn't work full time.

As people have already said, bricklayers earn more.

All goes to show, you're better off doing a trade these days.

Why can't one person look after two toddlers like most of us do? Do the adults have some disabilities?

I don't mean to be rude, but are you the right person to be providing work/benefit advice?

Advising someone with few qualifications to become a doctor or engineer or project manager in order to earn £100k a year seems a bit odd. Confused

Thanks for this, I thought I was going mad! Someone who has no idea (sorry) advising others who have no idea. You don’t just walk into a £100k role. I’d also suggest that if they don’t have the wherewithal to do this research themselves then they aren’t going to thrive in the kind of role that pays £100k as it very likely won’t be a nine to five one. Well not initially. Obviously a trade or skill perhaps not in an office would be different.
