Absolutely devastated…

Ive lost a years worth of pictures and videos of DD from the age of 6 months to 18 months. She’s now 9, and I have loads of videos and photos over those other years but have lost her first steps etc. I’ve reached out to family and have managed to gather some photos of her first birthday which I’m so grateful for.

Unfortunately there is no way of recovering the files (I’ve explored every option).

Has anyone else done similar? I feel awful for DD that I can’t share these memories with her as she grows 😢😢😢

My paternal grandmother burnt all the pictures of my Grandfather after he died when my father was only 10. He has a few pictures from relatives but that's it. It hurts my heart to think about it but my father is nearly 70 now and he has such fond memories still of his dad that I don't think the pictures matter too much for him anymore. A few is enough to keep the image of him in his mind and to show us.

I have three backups- main files on computer, one in a nearby hard drive, USB in the drawer, and one at parents'.

I learned from my mistake too!

OP I know how you feel. My youngest Daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate. I took lots of pictures of her wide clefty smile up until she was 3 Months old. At 3 Months she had lip surgery to close her cleft lip. One day I was just looking through the photos on my mobile and thought I'd delete a few and accidentally deleted all including all the newborn ones.
My Daughter is now 13 yrs old and It still upsets me. Those photos are just in my memory only and no way to show my Daughter.
Anyway since that time I always back up my photos on Google photos.

Would it be possible to contact her surgeon or the hospital and ask for medical photographs? This could help your DD with any questions she has. I know someone who did this, and made the photos into My Journey type of album for her own private interest.

@EarlyBird12345 I did ask the Cleft Department once when we were there for an appointment. The 2 or 3 photos they took were very ' clinical' ( sorry can't find a word) meaning they were so close up with ruler/ measurements all over ( size of cleft etc). The ones I had were around her siblings, smiling and laughing. Also had one when her Sister who was 5 yrs old picking her up. Like I said only in my memory now.
