What has bitten me? Photos

I had a couple of bumps on my hand, they were white and have gone now, at the same time I had a mark on my foot. This has red, but has now gone purple and is slightly swollen.

I assumed it was flea bites, but I've never reacted before and I think different critters are responsible for hand and foot.

They all appeared after I spent an hour or so, talking outside with a neighbour in the evening. I was wearing flip-flops and we were being bombarded by flying beasties.

I'll attach a photo of my hand (which is resolving and my foot now, guessing different insects?)

Fly bites? Are they itchy?

Sapho · 22/05/2023 20:38

could at least one be a spider bite? You can sometimes identify a spider bite by two little dots (its fangs) — the least red one seems to have two dots? Keep an eye out, since these can be quite bad sometimes…

@Piscesmumma1978 the ones on my hand were itchy, the one on the foot isn't.

@Sapho I did wonder that, I never felt a thing though, do spiders hurt when they bite (like stings do)?

I had a few fly bites last year. I only knew because I managed to see one 🤢 They itched like mad and were red.

After a week they started to go x

Blandford fly for the foot? Think that might be geographically specific though.

I don’t think they do. We are in an area that seems to have spiders that bite, and I have never noticed, not like a wasp or bee…

Probably a cleg fly. Awful things, with serrated mouthparts that infect almost immediately. Treat with an antiseptic or antibiotic cream, which should do the trick.

Yep, Blanny Bombers are near the Stour in Dorset. I used to go to school there and we lived in dread of them.

Blandford fly is about in Oxfordshire too..

WoofWoofBeachLife · 22/05/2023 21:18

Horse fly for the foot possibly, they do hurt when they ninja slice you though, maybe ants, the big ones. My exmil used to get them all the time in her rural garden. Yuck xx
