Ovarian cyst / cancer

Going for a blood testing including CA125 due to change in periods and a horrible pain that’s got worse on bottom right hand side. It’s pretty constant and doctors think it’s probably a cyst and unlikely to be cancer.

Any advice on what to expect after the blood test? I’m unsure if the CA125 is low will they do an ultrasound or not bother?

My cyst was picked up on an ultrasound, I then had a CA125, an MRI and a period of "watchful waiting". Another CA125 showed a raised level so another MRI to check. But I was told it was not thought to be cancerous - a dermoid cyst was the diagnosis. I chose to have my cyst removed to be 100% safe, which, during the op, then meant removal of one ovary (this had been explained to me and I had given consent). Once removed the test showed it was non-cancerous.
Have to say I was really impressed with how it was all handled.

Ovarian cancer doesn't normally cause pain. So yours is much more likely to be a cyst. Ca125 is usually highly elevated if it's cancer - I've had it and mine was about 12,000 . I then had an ultrasound and the cancer was very obvious.

Trust your doctor, and if you have any concerns, ask for a second opinion. Best wishes.

My ca125 wasn't raised but after my watch and wait my "cyst" was 6.6lb. I had no use of my bladder and it was also painful at different points of the day. It was in-fact cancerous and a tumour. I had multiple CT scans and MRI. I was staged 1b lost my ovary tube and it also effected my womb.

I was fobbed off for years and it all had huge detrimental effects to my mental health. I have to have repeat scans for the rest of my fertile life after which I will have a hysterectomy.

Cyst was originally found at 22 yrs operated on when I was 28 yrs I'm now 32 yrs and fingers crossed clear for now.

Wish you all the best op
