Spare/guest bedroom

I will likely have visitors this summer. I want to prepare the spare room for visitors. There is a double bed in the room already. I want to put in a single bed for a child.

What do you think would be the best option. Will I buy a single bed or will I buy a day bed. A day bed is like a single bed with a back like a couch (I like this idea and I found one onle for good value) or will I get a pump up bed.

What do you guys think? What would the best option be.

I’d go for day bed/couch. Much nicer to look at if they are only using the double.

Depends how big the room is. Is th plan to have the double and a daybed? That seems lovely, unless it will make the room squashed. A trundle bed that fits under the double might be another option.

My spare room is large enough for a double bed and a single but I thought it might end up looking like a dormitory! So I bought a lovely fold up single bed that has proper springs and is very comfortable. It’s intended for a child really as it’s only 2 ft 6 ins wide but is full length and my adult son has slept on it. It looks nice and neat in the room, whereas having a double and single would take up all the floor space.

It was more expensive than a single bed though but hopefully is good quality - it was from John Lewis after all!!

It depends how big the room is, what your budget is, what you use it for the rest of the time, how often you have guests.

I would not expect anyone to buy a bed for me if I were just visiting for a few days. OTOH, if I were moving in for 3 months, I would probably appreciate it.

I’d get a day bed or futon especially if I could use it latex elsewhere in the house, or a chair bed etc for the child, even an airbed if you are likely only to use it for this visit

I’ve slept in a day bed multiple times and find it fine

Would a sofa bed be comfortable to sleep on. I found a sofa bed online. It's a sofa and the back collapses flat and into a bed. I don't know if a sofa bed would be comfortable.
