Should we mix up bedtime routine?

We have 2 DC, 6 and 4.

DH always does DD, 6, bedtime and I always do DS, 4, bedtime.

It works well. If one of us is out we do their stories together.

They both have a few chapters of a chapter book read to them. We as parents quite like to follow the story too but I feel it's a shame to miss out on one child and for them to miss out on a parent.

Or does it not matter and we should just enjoy a routine that works with the knowledge that the children get a lovely story from one of us.

I would swap whose bedtimes you do, so that each child gets to be read to by each parent. As the parent, I would read any chapters I had missed before reading to that child again.

Why can't you do bedtime together? This is what I do for my 2 and 5 year old.
