My kitchrn lights will be done and the electrician has asked which light do I want in the kicthen.

Should I go for warm light 2700 kelvin or cool white 3000kelvin. Ive had a quick google and theyre saying either. Ill be having spotlights in the passage too which will the same lighting.

which ones does everyone else have in their kitchens?

thanks

What colour is your kitchen? If white then cool white will look pretty sterile, if wood then cool white will look quite stark. Grey or black then cool white I’d say, warm white for wooden or white

I always prefer warm white

Always warm white for me!

Cool white is stark, especially in winter.

Warm white gives it a nice glow and is gentler.

Also is it kitchen diner? Then I’d probably go warm white as I do for living areas. Kitchen breakfast bar fine with cool

cupboards are mid tone green with wood worktops. so quite country cottage but modern.

didn't think of that - yes we have a bit of space for a dining table so def living space and not just for cooking,

Spotlights in the passage you are almost definitely going to want warm white for a cosier feel, nobody needs to walk into a hospital as they come home! Plus cool white shows up muddy bits and boot stains more- warm white is more forgiving. If you go with warm white in the kitchen too then it’ll marry that up nicely.

Blarn · 22/05/2023 11:46

Warm. We have cool and it's stark and dazzling. Dh bought a massive box of them and I usually go out of my way to avoid unnecessary waste but am going to buy warm white replacements and just leave the cook ones sat in the back of a cupboard!

Meansz · 22/05/2023 11:48

oh one more question. The kitchen is 5m by 3m so would 8 spotlights be okay. teh ones ive found say 500lumens each - is that okay? the room is north facing so a bit dark anyway? shall i have more spotlights or go for higher lumens?

Warm (as long as it's not too yellow)

But really the best thing, whatever colour you choose, is to put them on a dimmer switch.

jackstini · 22/05/2023 11:55

Easy - buy the ones which you can switch from warm to cool on the bulb

Then you can try both looks, we change them between summer and winter sometimes too
