Burn out

So I was a social worker for 10+ years in various roles. By the end I was so burnt out. The system, the funding, the workload, the type of work. I was totally broken and had no passion left for the job.

So I changed job. To a completely unrelated field. Been in my new job just over a month and I just can't muster up any enthusiasm or passion for it. I don't think I realised quite how burnt out I was. I didn't think it would follow me. I'm really struggling. I don't know what to do.

So as not to dripfeed, I am also on antidepressants which have really helped (been on 12months) so I don't think it's depression, definitely fits all the criteria for burnout.

Any suggestions as to how I get over it? I really really want to enjoy and give my new job my all.

When you say "burn out", you might mean vicarious trauma. I think you have to give yourself time to process your experiences, think about the loss of your previous professional identity. It takes time and space to heal.
