I thought it would be just as interesting to hear about places visited where you had very low expectations, and were pleasantly surprised by how much these were exceeded.

I will start with three:
Turin, Italy
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Portsmouth, England

Three Cliffs Bay, Gower. It is spectacular.

Los Angeles

Liverpool

I found all of the Gower beaches to be spectacular! What a place ☺️

I don't know if it's "underrated", as I just never seem to see or hear anyone mentioning it as a destination at all, but the west coast of Ireland is stupendous and I am amazed this is not more widely known! (Yes I am biased as I live there...)

Oh, and not really under-rated so much as practically unknown over here: Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton.

Gorgeous coastline and long sandy beaches, great hiking in the national parks, lovely weather in summer, very few tourists (we often had the whole beach to ourselves).

I have yet to meet anyone else from the UK who has even been - most people just go to the Rockies or Niagara. I appreciate it’s a long flight, but it is worth extending your trip for a stopover.

@IvorTheEngineDriver it's not the prettiest (nice by the river though) but I like it too

I haven't been but last year I got talking to a lady from PEI when I was in the passport queue at Copenhagen airport. She had a small daughter with her and it was her first trip out of Canada post covid.

It always sounds nice in the Anne of Green Gables books.

If you google “PEI beaches”, it genuinely looks like the photos. Just beautiful, if you like beach holidays.

Cadiz for me...only went there as I could get a train from Seville and it had a beach. Scruffy authentic charm...loved it a lot. Very unexpected

No Swindon is really not that nice-worked and lived there. I know.

I really liked Cadiz and was reminded when Rick Stein did a weekend there. We are doing 3 nights in Seville in Nov and I was hoping we might have time to go. I fear Cordoba might win the vote for the day out though. I haven't been there so don't mind really...

Not sure if already mentioned but we broke a journey in Gloucester a couple of years ago and really liked it. We are going to build it in to another trip sometime

Why do posters quote the OP? Confused

There's no need.

Swindon
Middlesbrough
Berlin

Don’t know why.
