Car stolen... weird

Posting as I am as WTF as my dad
He drove to the pub, parked outside and had a meal and a chat with friends
Came to go home and his car had gone. Obviously he had a look around the local area briefly while trying to ring the police and has found it
Parked on double yellows, doors unlocked, no damage and nothing stolen
ConfusedConfused

Why..???!!

Did he park blocking some in or anything that might have meant someone wanted to move it?

If not my best guess is some drunkard who knows how to steal cars decided they couldn't be bothered to walk, and either didn't have far to go or had a crisis of conscience a bit up the road?

Ohh just thought of another one, if it's keyless start could be be they stole it and drive it until it was out of range of the keys and shut off?

Nope! I did the thing people always do and said well maybe you didn't park it where you thought (like asking when someone loses something where they last had it)

He was most insulted and told me the car he parked behind and the conversation he had with the car in front about how busy it was BlushConfused

Not keyless, 2017 Kia so not sure of the security on it. Full tank of fuel as well. Didn't even take the change out the front and he said there was about £30 in there

Could someone have taken his keys and moved it as a prank? If so a bit mean to leave it where he could get a ticket though!

People steal it and park it no too far away.
They don't want it to hit any of the cameras (ANPR, CCTV) in the area

They will leave it there for a few days and come back for it
Or they we sell it on to another criminal
Or the local criminals will just use it as a community car

if it gets found by the police or owner - the thief hasn't lost anything and won't be caught in it.

This is quite common. It's usually to see if it has a tracker on it. If it is still there after a while they come back for it.
