I’m desperate, please give me advice

My onboarding was atrocious, my manager did the absolute minimum. Wouldn’t even allow me to shadow him for one day. On my second day he asked me what I had planned for work that day, he didn’t give me access to a crucial system for four months after I repeatedly asked him.

My mental health deteriorated after months of feeling like I’m sinking. Broke down at work (privately in a meeting room with just my manager) and told them I felt suicidal, I couldn’t sleep, my weight had plummeted, the stress was too much etc.

Their reaction was now to say I was a low performer (never said this before my breakdown) and they put me on a plan which meant I got no pay rise or bonus. It was announced on Friday that my manager has now got a big promotion.

Do I quietly quit or raise a grievance?

100% speak to your union

OnAgainOffAgainn · 21/05/2023 19:30

I don’t have a union

That sounds awful. Your manager sounds incompetent.

Agree speak to union and HR about additional support required.

Does your workplace have a mental health first aider or EAP?

Take a little time to look after yourself and once you feel you are able to think clearly, think whether you want to work

What does the plan look like? Are there targets that you feel are fair and acheivable? Map out what you need to achieve this (i.e support, training, processes). Breaking it down will make it much more manageable.

Good luck OP!

Get signed off and look for another job. When you leave tell them exactly why!

DeedlessIndeed · 21/05/2023 19:33

Sorry that should say, whether you want to work with this person going forward! It might be better to move on.

Lemonfanta4 · 21/05/2023 19:35

Quit

its shit and you could fight it, you could speak to acas

but I would of left in the first week I wouldn’t waste any more time on this iob

you put this in an email to your HR and copy in your manager and ask why yout training hasn't taken place.
What does your contract say about induction, training, performance targets and trial period?

OnAgainOffAgainn · 21/05/2023 20:07

I didn’t sign a contract for this job, the only one I’ve signed is when I first joined six years ago for a role that’s completely different.

I’ve had a more senior manager tell me the plan isn’t good because nothing on there will train me in my job.

I was offered external training for a particular area of my job when I pushed it. Asked each week, found my own provider. Now I’ve been deemed a low performer “I’m not worth the investment”
