Received parcel not meant for me, how to make sure it’s not ID theft?

The parcel has my name and address on the label. The invoice inside is for someone I’ve never heard of, in a town where I don’t know anyone. I’ve never shopped with this company before so how would they have my details?

I’ve checked my bank account and PayPal and nothing has been paid to that company.

In April I cancelled a card after I realised I’d put the details into a fraudulent website (supposedly a bookshop that came up when I googled a title I wanted). I spoke to the bank after that and they confirmed there had been attempts to use the cancelled card but they hadn’t gone through, as I’d cancelled it straightaway. (I rang them after I’d had a suspicious phone call claiming to be from the bank, which I hung up on when they said they wanted details for the cancelled card.)

Tomorrow I’ll contact the company this parcel has come from. Anything else I should do to be safe? This has creeped me out.

I'd do an experian check or similar, to check all the current credit accounts in your name.

Good thinking, thank you.
