Paddle Board

Can anybody recommend a decent paddle board at a reasonable price please? They seem to vary so much, some seem like a bargain but obviously won’t be if they aren’t very good. We are new to this so any tips would be appreciated.

It's really difficult to recommend anything without knowing your budget, your height, your weight, how/ where you will be using it etc etc.
I would advise joining one of the Facebook SUP groups and asking there but giving the info I've listed above.

If you do just want something relatively cheap then the Lidl Mistral boards are quite popular.

Look on the Two Bare Feet website. We got ours from there after hiring one in the lakes. Had it about 7 years and it’s brilliant.

It all depends on your view of a reasonable price obviously, but we have 2 of these for our teenagers. DH and I use them too.

I cannot recommend them enough. We've had them about 4 years, travelled around the country with them and used them an awful lot, they still look brand new. Sturdy, not too heavy to carry and quick to inflate.

I'd recommend the customer service here too.

Whichever board you choose, please read this and consider how to keep safe whilst having a great time enjoying this sport.

ps we’ve got Sandbanks sups which are brilliant!

Thanks for all these, it’s primarily for my daughter to use although I may have a go myself (she’s 12 and nearly as tall as me, I’m 5ft 4).

I will definitely read the safety advice, thank you @SconeCreamAndJam we live by the coast and have been brought up with a respect for the sea.

We have this board in teal and navy and we’re very happy with it! We also have the Aquaplanet Allround 10 which isn’t as good but we use it for taking the dog on.

There's load of SUP shops around, try Googling to find one near you, there so many different lengths, widths etc it can get overwhelming.

I got ours from 2 bare feet, theryre excellent but I spent ages reading about them to try and get the right one.

Paddleboards are generally sold with ankle leashes, make sure you get a waistband to attach it to your waist rather than ankle as trying to release the ankle strap when you've come off and are in trouble is dangerous.

We bought ours from here... after a ton of research, and have been very happy with them and use them a lot (and yay for sun this week... out we go)

You probably know, but you do need a waterways licence to go on rivers/canals... you can be fined otherwise (get them from the British Canoe soc)

Sandbanks fan here too. Although I know a few people with Goosehill boards and are happy.

Make sure you get a proper fitting PFD and some lessons to ensure she can get back on the board etc, safety advise.

I was kayaking at the weekend. Lots of paddleboards out.
There was a bloke who says he may have underestimated his weight - the paddleboard was just floating in the water with water lapping over it.

His didn't look that safe - not compared to the ones that were floating much higher in the water

He won’t have inflated it enough, he probably just pumped until it felt hard (that sounds dodgy 😂) and not to the required PSI 🙈.

I would recommend a

  • 10'6" Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board - MZMSUP1-2

Specification

• Tie down bungee cords to secure cargo
• Heavy duty carry handle
• Non-slip EVA deck (Large eva foot pad on the board provides grip and comfort)
• Air-tight valve (High pressure recessed valve for quick and easy inflation and deflation)
• Ankle leash D-ring (Stainless steel d-ring for attaching safety leash to foot)
• Inflate to a maximum of 15 PSI.

Included inside the box:

• Paddle
• Hand Pump
• Leash
• Fins
• Carrying Bag
• Repair Kit
