Are vets allowed to date their clients?

Just curious...

There are rules about humans being romantically involved with animals, it doesn’t sound very ethical to me.

holliebo · 20/05/2023 07:59

I don't think anyone should be dating a cat or dog.....sure there's a name for that 🤣

Sorry, I couldn't resists but in all seriousness, Why wouldn't they be able to?

Pets - not so much! The owners of pets, of course. Why wouldn't they be?

I assume you mean the client's owners 🙂

I would have thought it's fine as long as there been no misuse of confidential data to access contact details.

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/05/2023 08:01

You mean the owners of their clients, right?

Azandme · 20/05/2023 08:04

That's like asking if it's OK to date the local greengrocer who sells you your veg.

Why wouldn't it be ok? What ethical quandary would it present?

SFG112112 · 20/05/2023 08:05

Yes I mean their human clients, not patients Smile

OP posts:
CaptainMyCaptain · 20/05/2023 08:06

I can't see why not. Vets don't do intimate examinations of the owners.

WimpoleHat · 20/05/2023 08:07

Why on earth would that be a problem? Any more than dating, say, your plumber or postman or architect?

Henowner · 20/05/2023 08:08

Meow, wuff wuff 😍

musixa · 20/05/2023 08:09

I would marry my cat if he'd have me 😁

Because I wasn't sure if vets have to follow a code of conduct with their clients, like doctors do with patients.

I used to work with someone who was married to a vet, which she said was great because her dog constantly ate socks and pants and plastic bags and he'd operate on it for free. However I think their marriage pre-dated the dog.

Animal husbandry?

But doctors might have to ask you to take your clothes off, do an examination of an intimate nature. That’s why (put crassly) that’s a rule. No problems of that sort with a vet.

Anonaymoose · 20/05/2023 12:41

Because most vets are employees of a business and acting on behalf of that business. If it goes wrong, business loses a client. It would definitely be frowned upon and I've never known it to happen in 30 years in the industry.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 20/05/2023 12:42

Why, is your vet good looking and single?

Anyport · 20/05/2023 12:44

If the Vet is treating you then that's a different problem entirely.

People have been arrested for that!!!!

GreyCarpet · 20/05/2023 12:57

Drs etc aren't allowed to date clients/patients because of the imbalance in the power dynamic. The patient is automatically 'vulnerable' in that relationship.

No such issue with vets.

HelpMeGetThrough · 20/05/2023 13:04

I'm sure a horny dog or two has taken a look at a vets leg and thought "that'll do for me".
