Can some women just not carry weight?

Totally prepared to get flamed...

But I'm 5ft 5 10.5st so BMI says fine.
Up until last year I was around 13st so have lost a fair bit.

Down to a size 10/12 and look OK with clothes on, but I still feel fat and wobbly without. Some women look a bigger size than me but seem to be able to carry a bit of weight, eg in a bikini, whereas I think I'm smaller but look worse if that makes sense.

Do I just have to accept that I'll need to keep going and lose more for my body shape/frame?

I know what you mean - I think some people have nice firm fat which looks curvy and lovely but I think my fat is soft 😳 so I just look wobbly!

We are our own worst critics.
You won’t look worse than other women, you just think you do. Being critical and self conscious means you aren’t carrying yourself with confidence and that always shows.

Losing weight is really hard so congratulations going from 13st to 10.5 in one year, that is really brilliant!

I think it takes a while for the skin to catch up if you know what I mean? So some areas might be a bit "saggy" still? Exercise will sort that out I'm sure. What areas are you most self conscious about?

Start weight training.

This is me!

I'm not as tall as you, I'm 5'7 and a bit! I'm currently about 10 stone but actually need to be 9 to feel ok. I am finding some size 10 clothes a bit snug whereas I know others that weigh more than me and can easily wear a 10. I find it fascinating how people carry weight differently

Bodies are just different. It's genetics and you can no more change it than you can change your eye colour.

My family seem to get very soft, saggy skin as we age. I have a wrinkly belly & a muffin top even though I'm not fat.
Other, much bigger women look smoother and well proportioned in bikinis.

Meh. I try and focus on my health, the bits I can improve and look for something I like, rather than obsessing on things I can't do anything about. I'm not an ornament (luckily).

I think 99% of it is posture.

That's a good point. It's mainly all on my thighs/stomach, maybe the skin does need time to adjust, hopefully!

Yes I think it depends on where your fat is stored. When my BMI was 30 I didn't look fat and I'm pretty short. Still had a waist and muscly legs. Some people look naturally more flabby, or it sticks to the belly. I think exercise at any build helps though. I've since lost a bit of weight and look and feel much better for it though.

blahblahblah1654 · 19/05/2023 23:21

Well I guess I looked fat but not massively so!

Malbecmoron · 19/05/2023 23:39

Yes! I'm 5' 5" but am very small boned, narrow shoulders and hips. I cannot carry weight at all! I look chubby well within healthy BMI and slim only about BMI 20.
