Any ideas for a party in the park?

Son is turning 9 next week. we are going to meet some friends at the park after school for a party/celebration as the weather is forecast to be good. Any suggestions for how to make it fun and not just like a normal trip to the park?

Big bubble wands/swords? You can buy in bulk online easily enough.

Water guns, nerfs, light sabres, frisbees, footballs. Goody bags and cake.

AmberTart · 19/05/2023 18:49

Great ideas thank you all! I'm going to get individual cupcakes in place of a birthday cake as will be easier to serve I think? Can still put a candle in one Grin
Am also going to bring sweets/drinks and crisps along.

Hot dogs in a thermos flask to keep them warm, rolls and ketchup.

pop up gazebo with banners and balloons attached.

organised games.

Lemonpepper · 19/05/2023 18:53

Nerf guns
Bubble machine
Balls/ball games
Picnic blankets
Food and drinks (napkins, plates etc)
Cooler with drinks for adults
Depending on where you'll be sitting you could string up some birthday banners/flags to trees

AmberTart · 19/05/2023 19:07

I actually don't mind the idea of super soakers and water balloons, unfortunately there's no water supply at the park, I wonder if one of the houses that back onto the park would let us use their hose 🤣

Gds’ party is nearly always in the park - water balloons have always gone down very well. His b-day is high summer though - it was 40 deg last year 😱- just as well the park has some big shady trees.

Egg and spoon race.
Three legged race.
Prizes of course!

French cricket if there are enough players.

BadlydoneHelen · 19/05/2023 19:20

I was about to type Supersoakers too! That thread was incredible

mauveiscurious · 19/05/2023 19:23

Picture treasure hunt it's good for any age

Redebs · 19/05/2023 19:26

Coloured ribbons always inspire kids. You can get them for a quid for a roll each and can make multicoloured streamers to hang on trees or use batons.
Stomp rockets are wonderful fun for a group. You could get a few and see who can get it highest.

NancyJoan · 19/05/2023 21:00

Egg and spoon race
sack race
balance a beanbag on your head race
three legged race
medals for all

strawberryurchin · 19/05/2023 21:00

you'll need a plan b in case of bad weather!

strawberryurchin · 19/05/2023 21:01

oh a pinata would be good too.

butterwithtoast · 19/05/2023 21:11

Stomp rocket, cricket set & frisbee for non-water based fun! Bluetooth speakers for a party vibe. Snacks & drinks. Have a great time!

AmberTart · 19/05/2023 23:53

Thankfully weather for the next 10 days or so says it's going to be dry every day. If it's pouring down we'll have to do it another day and I'll take DS out with his sister after school instead.

No water balloons or ribbons hanging on trees unless you can 100% guarantee that you will pick up every scrap of litter they create.
Every single little scrap please.

I've posted before in this.
My DS is now 21. His best party was when he was maybe 6. we recruited a couple of my friends' teen sons. Got a couple of goals and had a mini football tournament.
We bought disposable BBQs, cheap sausages, burgers etc and ice lollies.
Cheap as chips and the best party ever, even when he's 21!!!
