Why would the police keep driving through my close

Over the last few weeks I've noticed the police drive through the close very slowly and then just drive back out again. It's a very small close and nothing much ever goes on.
Is this a normal thing or is something suspicious happening?

Not normal, no.
They're patrolling. Might just be something small like a suspected driver with no licence, or someone nearby has reported suspicious activity.

MintJulia · 18/05/2023 22:45

They're either hoping to find someone they think lives/visits there, or they are keeping a friendly eye on a particular house or individual, and creating a visual deterrent at the same time.

Lucky you. Nice to have them around, house breakers and vandals will go elsewhere while they are carrying out regular patrols.

Nice but they quite often knock on here if they ever want any information about various people in the close which is really weird

They're staking you out op.
Next thing, they will be giving you a rude 05.30 awakening.

Only joking.

Maybe a neighbour has reported something suspicious or anti social and they're keeping a presence as a deterrent?

RedToothBrush · 18/05/2023 23:29

Cos there are people in witness protection living on your street and they have to check in on them every now and again. People in witness protection live on quiet cul-de-sacs.

What have your neighbours been getting up to?!

If they’re regularly knocking to ask about ‘various people’ then either there’s an issue with those people, or it’s you they’re suspicious of, I’m afraid.

newjobnewstartihope · 19/05/2023 08:20

Lol yeah of course they are suspicious of me
I wondered when that one would come up

Somebody has probably reported something suspicious/antisocial behaviour. Drug dealing, junkies, potential burglars scouting empty houses. Good to have them patrolling in and out like that. Makes the area safer.

In all the places I've lived in my life I have NEVER seen the police do that! Where do you live?!

crackofdoom · 19/05/2023 15:22

They often do that on our close. Just paying a courtesy call to their regular customers That Lot at Number Three I think 😆

What?

So many MNetters make up utter shit and present it as fact or even likely.

Sometimes MN really does make me wonder.

Yes I can confirm, I don't think a drug supergrass or a former supervillain is living at the end of the street.

Or are they? Ponders

SusanMaria · 19/05/2023 16:27

You don't have to answer the door and talk to them if you'd rather not OP.

Honestly they love knocking me up...I'm an insomniac and they often see my pottering about in the kitchen so will tap the window and ask if I've heard anything next door or over the road or seen anything worrying
