Just starting a thread to ask for small things that cheer you up. Having a bit of a wobbly time at the moment and looking for inspiration :)

My two Chihuahuas Smile

GabrielleLegs · 18/05/2023 22:00

Painting my toe nails.
Baking cakes.
Sitting in the garden with a cup of coffee and a brand new magazine.
Chatting with a friend on the phone.
Eating an ice cream.
Taking a photo of something I've enjoyed and sharing it with my friends.

A cup of earl grey tea in the afternoon

Reading a long newspaper weekend article rather than just skimming news headlines

Tackling an "I don't want to do it and want to act like a stubborn toddler it's not fair I did this yesterday" job (putting clean dry laundry away/house admin filing.....mostly). But I feel lighter if I do it. So try and do one toddler job each morning.

Researching an booking "an event". Can be just a visit to a museum, or full on theatre with drinks, but research and planning. Even a new cafe with a pretty or people watching view.

A train ride (very off peak preferably) love trains wish they were everywhere in place of cars.

Buying new books. I have so many I am now on a self imposed dry turkey that I need to read a few more and pass on before adding more to the shelves. But nonetheless buying new books makes me happy.

As does buying nice new pens. (Again now on rations).

Cloud watching, love the "I see a rabbit" cloud game and you can play it yourself.

Reading and trying to apply local, real life weather forecasting tricks of old and see if they are accurate. When flowers close their petals. Birds flap away.

Making healthy fizzy drinks with the soda stream.

When the sun finally breaks out from the clouds and everything warms up and is bright. It's like my happiness turns of with the brightness instantly.

My dogs
Sitting in the garden watching/listening to the birds
Putting one of my playlists on Spotify, something either from my teenage years or a list that I’ve named happy, it’s full of singalong cheesy songs
Long soak in the bath
Being in my greenhouse

bamboonights · 18/05/2023 22:29

My dog, just being happy to be alive. My other dog, and his unfortunate but perfect ridiculous face and awful attitude.
My kids plus partners coming round for beer and food.
My cat, holding my finger with her tiny paws at night.
Seeing my cat curled up, fast asleep, so content with the world she lives in.
Fresh air dried linen on the bed.
A cold beer watching the football
Dusk - particularly the tiny change of light that signifies the end of the day.
Heading home-from anywhere.

Just an idea - when I was going through a difficult time I started a little notebook and each day wrote down a list of 3 of the best bits of my day. I made a promise that I had to come up with 3 things no matter how rubbish my day was - some days it would be really simple things like the sandwich I had for lunch, or the nice weather when I went for a walk round the block and other days it was genuine nice things.

Either way it got my brain into a better habit of looking for the small wins, and it was a nice set of lists to look back on several months later.

I love this

  • Watching my spectacularly busy bird feeder (especially now the fledglings are around waiting to be fed by mum) I have gone from 0 - 13 species in 2 years.
  • fresh (washing line dried) bed linen
  • Having a lovely bath @bellalou1234, I used Badedas gel for the first time today (bizarre stuff, I think I like it) 😁
  • Leaving my bedroom window open at night (now it's warmer) *Yorkshire Tea...or Malbec in aforementioned clean bed (depending on time of day) *A bloomin good book or a binge on TV...with wine/brew *The sun on my face *Being woken at dawn by the birds (see prev points about open window/clean sheets 😆) *Having a big old clean, I hate doing it but it feels great in a clean room. *My cat bullying his way onto my lap when I just want a moment to myself...he always wins as I am on earth to serve his every whim. *A house full of plants brings me peace. *Food, good food makes me happy. Even cheap comfort food - has to be home cooked though.

Cuddling our 2 week old kittens when mum cat goes for a break.
Rammstein.
A decent sleep.
Wearing a nice outfit on a sunny day.

echt · 18/05/2023 23:07

Listening to an engaging audiobook in the car.

HinnyInAPinny · 18/05/2023 23:24

Having a nice soak in the bath before making a cup of tea and taking it to bed with a couple of biscuits and a new book.
Then sliding into the freshly laundered bedding to drink, munch and read.
Bliss with a big fat capital B.

caringcarer · 19/05/2023 00:07

Playing with my 2 kitties.
Sitting in the garden having my coffee and enjoying watching everything in bud and growing.

Theoldwoman · 19/05/2023 00:55

Cleaning the house
Fresh sheets on the bed
Sitting outside
A walk in nature with the dog
A hot shower
Playing with the cat

Anything as part of my simplistic lifestyle.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 19/05/2023 01:04

Making plans for the future
A good book that takes you somewhere else
A feel good movie
A jigsaw!

Missingthegore · 19/05/2023 01:28

A nice pen...not even super expensive but a nice writer. Mine all go missing when people cover my job and sit at my desk, they all steal them. I use a sharpie gel pen.

An amazing stretch. Sometimes I will do a proper stretch session, sometimes just a good arms above head and turn from side to side.

A scalp massage, the best part of the hairdresser appointment or get someone in the house to do it to you. I watch that YouTube clip of the cows with the rotating brushes they scratch against and want that 😊

When I have moisturised my elbows and legs consistently and they feel soft, not my usual slightly dry state.

My ECOSA pillow, it cradles me.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 19/05/2023 03:14

Mango sorbet from Aldi. A cuddle from a purring cat. (I have 5 so not hard to find).
shower and clean bed linen. A cup of tea and sit down in the sun. A hug from Dh.

small things which have made a bitch of a week bearable.

MadEyeMoodysEye · 19/05/2023 03:50

Sotting in my reading chair in my bedroom with a cat on my lap, either reading a good book or istening to music & enjoying the view.

A walk around my local park.

Yoga (when I can't get to a claas I like Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube

Painting my nails

Lego

blahblahblah1654 · 19/05/2023 04:08

My 3 year olds sweet voice. Lighter evenings.

ShandaLear · 19/05/2023 04:30

It’s 4.30am and I’m sitting quietly, having a lovely cup of coffee.

SinnerBoy · 19/05/2023 06:02

Watching gannets land on open water, they're big and they're furious flyers, but they land so delicately and precisely.
