Knocking noise in my washer drum

There is nothing wrong with my machine. It washes the clothes and has no smell. When it spins though, there is a noise like something has got behind the drum and it rattles when it spins. It is driving me bonkers. Sometimes it sounds like a drill when the spin is fast.
Can I get behind the drum to have a look is my question ?

The drum is cracked.

You are mad to be using it. You are running a risk of an electrical fire or a flood from the machine. I'm amazed it's working still.

You need to come up with a solution I'm afraid, as much of a pain as that is.

I am following the advice of the washer guy. The repair is too costly to undertake on a machine over eight years old but it's ok to use if I stay in the house when using it. Only put in small loads which is what I do anyway. I'm getting another but not until the noise becomes dire as funds are low

Please don't use it a family at our local school are homeless because the washing machine in the utility room caught fire. They all got out safely, but the fire was well away, the water from the fire engines made an awful mess too.

He told me it was safe to use ! I did not intend to keep it for much longer, but thanks for the advice. I will bear it in mind and get the new washer pronto
