I say that as a non believer.

Anyone else glad the coronation is done and dusted?

I’m also ex - armed forces and my DH has been a pilot in these fly pasts… I have been on parade as well and know what that takes, so was impressed from that perspective as well!

No, I loved it. All that history, pomp and ceremony. I watched it all. 👑👑

Plenty of peasant cap doffers on MN too.

Why do people feel the need to be rude about people just because they've enjoyed something they didn't? It's pathetic.

Why come on a thread that's clearly not meant for the Royal lovers then?

Glad to live in the wilds of Wales. It passed pretty much unnoticed here

JaneyGee · 06/05/2023 19:57

God, yes. And I'm sick of people accusing me of being miserable and unpatriotic. I AM patriotic, but I'm patriotic about things that are worth being patriotic about. It's Shakespeare and Blake and Wordsworth and Jane Austen and Dickens and Shelley and Keats and the Brontes and Virginia Woolf who make me proud to be British. It's our literature and science and ancient universities that make me proud. This is the country in which DNA was discovered. The country that produced Darwin and Newton. That's what makes me proud.

No problem with monarchy - if they pay for themselves. Please do not trot out ‘but the money they bring in’. It’s utter bollocks, and that income would not change were they to self fund. People would still come for the buildings and the history.

affor · 06/05/2023 21:26

It would be much easy to avoid if people would STICK THREADS TO THE ROYAL CHAT AREA which I've hidden!

FoodCentre · 06/05/2023 21:30

I find the best way to avoid a topic I don't like, is to start a thread about it and ask for other people to engage in discussion about the topic

If you’re so glad it’s over why are you still harping on about it?

BettyfromBristol · 06/05/2023 22:09

JaneyGee What a brilliant post, thank you. If we were six I would ask if you would be my best friend 😊

All these things and the monarchy have been wrapped up together over the last 1,000 years. And they will continue for another 1,000 years. I have no doubt about that.

DrHousecuredme · 06/05/2023 22:55

I made it be over by switching my television off, was that not an option for you?

I've heard that Kate likes a little incognito posting on Mumsnet and I'm pretty sure she's saying "thank God that's over"

There was plenty of great British music that was on offer today, all performed superbly by a range of British soloists, choirs, organists and orchestral musicians. That was certainly something to be proud of.
