I write notes to myself on my left hand like 'to dos' abbreviated. Eg 'chem' for chemist.,

I have SAD so for around 4 months of the year I go to bed between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. It helps me.

Neverknowinglysensible · 05/05/2023 12:50

‘Special’ photos, my favourite bronze horse ornament, and my devil mask of great sentimental value must always have a nice view to look at. Other photos and ornaments can stare into a corner for all I care.

I talk to my new car about its extreme collision anxiety when using the reverse parking camera. I have told it that I have been backing into our driveway for a decade and never hit the bike shed.

Like the perfume idea but also suffer from allergies.

Would spraying a little on my bedside lamp bulb work? I’m sure I read this somewhere once.

Spray it when turned off and then when you put it on before bed the heat will radiate the scent?

Might try it 😀

I have conversations with my cats. That's normal right...

Totally

AmyandPhilipfan · 05/05/2023 12:55

I talk for my cat. So she'll greet me in the street and say hi, ask for food, ask where I've been etc. Out loud. In her voice. But obviously it's really me. I mainly just do it when my kids are around but sometimes I catch myself making the cat say hi to an adult neighbour or visitor! Occasionally one of my kids will say 'it's just you mum' and I usually say I'm just saying out loud what I know the cat wants to say! Until last year when two sadly died we had three cats and all of them had different voices! I also speak for the neighbour cats when we see them in the street - sometimes it's hard to make each cat's voice slightly different!

My flat is always clean and tidy. Like always. People say they don't know how I keep on top of it. But I don't understand how people live in a messy home.

Surely that's fairly normal. My house is the same

AmyandPhilipfan · 05/05/2023 12:58

I don't give my robo vacuum cleaner a voice but I do talk to him as if he were sentient and sympathise with him when he's on his way back to the charger about how tired he must be!

PeppermintTeaThenBed · 05/05/2023 13:04

I bash my toast with the blunt end of the knife before buttering to make yummy buttery puddles 🤤

Do you have kids? 🤣

CoolCalmCollected · 05/05/2023 13:09

I also do the washing/peg thing. My plastic pegs are a mix of colours and I have to match the peg colour to the clothes in some way. Crappy old teatowels and cloths get the crappy old wooden pegs.

I occasionally eat a dry Weetabix with roughly an inch thick layer of butter on the top - I'm told it's revolting but I love it!

Oh now that is a good idea! I'm stealing this one 🤣

And less prosaic than my laundry, perhaps…

Both DH and I are friends with and socialise with many of our ex partners. Between us, I don’t think we have a single ex we count as having been good riddance. Two of his exes I count among my closest friends and, along with one of my exes, they’re coming to our wedding. To us, this is all entirely normal - and we’ve both always agreed says a lot about the other’s capacity to pick good partners, to be a good partner, and to handle break ups well.

But from all the MN threads I’ve read from posters who can’t stand that their OH still has a forgotten photo of a distant ex lurking in the depths of his FB album somewhere, or sometimes speaks about an ex wife with anything other than hatred and loathing, I’ve learned this is broadly thought of as weird by others!

EnjoythemoneyJane · 05/05/2023 13:15

These threads always fill up with people who do ‘voices’ for their pets (as do we), so I think that’s actually pretty normal tbh. Always makes me laugh the different personas they all have though - the best ever was a grumpy little dog who apparently swore like a sailor but in a thick French accent 😂

I always remember the dog walker MN who had a little theme tune for each of the dogs she cared for and would sing the tunes in turn as they were walking, like some kind of moving musical theatre production. I thought that was great!

MaMisled · 05/05/2023 13:37

DH, dogs and I sneak into dense, local woodland with a tent, cook on a campfire then snuggle up to sleep at about 9pm. We're around 60 years old.

FunnysInLaJardin · 05/05/2023 13:40

I think most people do the pet voice thing.

Quite often if DH asks our cat if she is OK, she will tell him to fuck off in a high pitched Yorkshire accent

Spidey66 · 05/05/2023 13:48

When I’m eating a meal, I leave my favourite part till last. Like if I’m eating roast beef, I’ll eat the meat and veg before the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding.

Catspyjamas17 · 05/05/2023 13:48

I was about 25 before I realised that this wasn't how most people dream

Yes, me too.

Catspyjamas17 · 05/05/2023 13:56

When I watched Blue Cow on The Storymakers when DDs were little, I slightly teared up and smiled as I realised I felt like Blue Cow quite a lot growing up. If ever you did anything out of the ordinary, slightly aspirational or really worked hard at something at school it was seen as swotty, weird, posh or showing off.

gettingoldisshit · 05/05/2023 14:00

I also eat burgers in layers, same with sandwiches and i also am quite happy to drink cold tea and coffee. I used to hold my cutlery in the wrong hands because it felt more comfortable but I've managed to train myself out of that one!

gettingoldisshit · 05/05/2023 14:01

Oh and i also lucid dream.

Catspyjamas17 · 05/05/2023 14:05

I like trying to eat as many layers as possible like a Scooby sandwich. But sometimes for decency's sake in public it is necessary to cut or eat bits separately.

33goingon64 · 05/05/2023 14:07

When out walking with a group of people, if I'm ahead and see dog poo, I'll call out to show the others to avoid it, so they don't step in it. My family all do this. Apparently it's weird though, according to various other people I know. I mean, why would you not say anything and let someone (especially a child) get it on their shoes because they hadn't noticed it?

That's entirely normal and considerate. When running in a group, whoever notices a low branch or something first shouts "Branch!" etc to the others.
