Have you had any problems with the new voting ID rules

I have just been to vote. Lots of people there. I asked one of the volunteers (just in conversation) have they had problems with the new ID rules. She said one or two but much smoother than expected, but that the polls has also been quieter than usual

Will be interesting to see the voter turnout numbers

@Pussycatbeen the form was really easy. It's online and you just needed to add a photo (which most people can do via their phones).
I filled it out in about 5 minutes.

The polling station was empty except for me when I went, the park was full of people saying they didn't do it as don't have ID. We are an area of deprivation.

I went at 3pm this afternoon, lovely sunny day, a steady stream of elderlies. Lady at the door checking we all had ID. We have a resident led council at the moment, and with some local angst going on, we are all trying to get rid of the Conservatives and the Lib Dems, so it's actually quite empowering.

StillMedusa · 04/05/2023 17:23

I took my driving licence in but they just looked at my work lanyard that I was still wearing :) No issues at all.

IhearyouClemFandango · 04/05/2023 17:25

Ibwas always surprised you didn't need to show Id tbh. No elections in my area though.

IsItHalfTermYetHelp · 04/05/2023 17:26

Very easy, was in and out in two minutes.

No, but I always have photo ID on me. As a Mumsnetter, I'm forever getting IDed as I look SO MUCH YOUNGER than I am 🤣

At least they let you vote. I showed my ID but got turned away as they said I was too teeny tiny and clearly too young to vote 🤣

OhmygodDont · 04/05/2023 17:29

Seemed fine here. Then again it’s they are really welcoming here and even chat to all the children that come along. Dd nearly posted my id in the voting box though when I let her put my slip in 😅

BloodyHellKen · 04/05/2023 17:35

No problems, I used my driving license as ID :)

TorviShieldMaiden · 04/05/2023 17:46

I haven’t voted this time, because the name on my voting card is my old married name and all my ID is in my maiden name. I think I could go and take my divorce certificate, but it feels like a faff to try and find it. I couldn’t get the online thing to work and I don’t have a printer.

Kyse · 04/05/2023 17:50

Just been and they didn't even look at it. I live next door to our mayor though and so knew most of the people there! They said hi as I went in

That's a shame as the people without ID could have completed the online form for the free voter ID document and then they wouldn't have lost their vote.

TheChosenTwo · 04/05/2023 17:51

No problem here other than it was a different polling station to the one I was expecting! Got to the usual one, checked my card and it was back to the location it always had been up until about 5 years ago.
Very quiet, I was the only one in there although others were leaving the carpark when I arrived and some were arriving as I was leaving.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 04/05/2023 17:53

No problems whatsoever 😊.

Seaitoverthere · 04/05/2023 17:54

I don’t look like my driving license picture so had a tense moment.

CurlewKate · 04/05/2023 17:58

I couldn't find you driving licence this morning- but I discovered you can use and out of date passport so long as you look the same. Useful to know.

DahliaMacNamara · 04/05/2023 18:14

The lad behind the desk took longer finding people's names on the list than he did checking ID. He only glanced at my driving licence. I was slightly worried that the photo was several years old, but it still shows a scary middle-aged woman with the same kind of haircut.
I must say I found it pretty depressing to have to show my papers before being allowed to vote.
