I couldn't see an existing thread on this so apologies if I'm duplicating.

It's Hedgehog Awareness Week. Can you help Hedgehog Street to get everyone you know to ?

Hedgehog Street want to make sure that the hedgehog, the UK's only spiny mammal, remains a common and familiar part of British life

How can you help?

Place marking to remind me to read those links later.

Have fed piggies for several years now and in fact a neighbour brought one round earlier that he'd rescued from the road. Will be releasing it later (unless it escapes 😂). I have two visiting atm as I took the third to vets last week.

I found i had them when I forgot to bring the cats saucer in one night. The bloody clanking noise it made trying to flip the saucer over at 2am!! I now have several wildlife cameras set up to watch them as I do find them adorable 😍

Love my hoggies. Think we have 3 or 4 a night crunching away on the biscuits I leave for them. They're certainly getting cosy, very noisy hot date last week 🤣🤣

Love seeing the hoggies. My cat is scared of them 😀

Found this from your link on the other post. I have 2 resident hedgehogs who hibernated in the 2 hedgehog houses in our garden with a possible third under the deck and at least 1 other visiting nightly. 3rd house is being built as we speak Our garden is full of hedgehog highways (holes in the fences!) And they seem to come and go all night. They only eat Iams kitten biscuits or kitten wet food so they are picky buggers. I bloody love hedgehogs.

KnittedCardi · 04/05/2023 23:14

We have hogs and they leave their poo all round the garden, but I don't mind. Often see them scuffling round the back door. I think they hibernate under our hedges. We have very old, very thick privet, and I always rake clippings and leaves and debris under them every year, so very cozy.

One was killed on the road this morning. Broke my heart.

Awww thanks for the links, there was an event at work this week where they were handing out hedgehog street leaflets

Bumping for awareness

Another bump.

I have 3 x nesting/hibernation boxes in my garden, Riverside Woodcraft Gold, which are predator proof. I've cut holes in the fencing that is mine, 13cmx13cm, other fences have holes underneath, they can pass through. I leave fresh water and poultry flavoured cat food and cat biscuits in a feeding station every night.

So many people say "I haven't seen a hedgehog in my garden for years/ever", but all you need to do is make your garden hedgehog friendly, and it's easy.

I love our hogs. We have lots of badgers but luckily, they don't seem to bother them too much.
